"Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or wayg
But to act, that each tomorrow
Finds us farther than today."
Longfellow proposes in this verse a philosophy of
life of great significance. Ponder these ideas. Probe
their depth. Impregnate your pattern of purposeful
living with great respect for today and a profound
faith in God.
Maine is better because you have been here. May
God bless and guide you.

Our goal at Maine is to aid in the production of
efficient citizenship, and our success must be measured
by the way in which students here meet their share of
the responsibility. A great secondary school must be
more than merely a group of reading or recitation
roomsg it must present reality and life both in its
academic and co-curricular areas.
The response of Maine students to the curriculum,
the co-curriculum, and to the responsibilities of
citizenship should make everyone in the school and
community very proud.
