1 il l ,ry ' we Q ri Alright, who nailedfmy podium to the floor? Glimpses From Pastg Plans For Presentg Hopes For Future Especially during the controversial times we live in, history becomes much more than dates, places and names. In order to create a favorable future it is necessary to understand the history of the past. This is why Madonna offers her students a well rounded program in this subject. Our country's welfare depends partly on how well we are able to associate with foreign countries. The background and reasons for actions taken by coun- tries is examined and interpreted in World Culture. Since past decisions often reflect future actions taken by nations, we must be aware and informed of former world events as World History explains. But before we can concern ourselves with other nations we must clean up our own backyard. American History provides an unbiased look at our country's part in world affairs and development. Seniors dis- cover the principles of business and industry through Economics and Sociology. We are the future America. To handle this immense responsibility we must be fully aware of the times and people before and of our present era. 'How many can tell me what World Culture is? ' g A

Gur Students Learn How Dther Half Communicates They said that in French? You're kidding! I knew you'd like the idiom test! Bonjour, Hola, Solveg no matter which way you spell it, the meaning is the same. So it is with people: the faces may be different but we all have the same universal needs. The mastering of a foreign language can be an educational as well as cultural experience. A language is more than a means of communication, for it is a reflection ofa civilization of peo- ple. When vve eradicate our narrow-mindedness and open ourselves up to new ideas, like the study of different cul- tures, it can have a broadening effect on our scale of values. The Latin language is a reflection on a period in history when Rome ruled the world. Latin is still alive and can be seen in the past and present monuments and other remnants of Rome, With the whisper of French word our minds travel down the Champs d'Elysee to the famous Arch de Triomphe. Maybe it's the sound of a Latin beat or the smell of Span- ish olives or perhaps the sight of a Picasso painting: which- ever it is, the thought is of picturesque Spain. So quickly do these reflections come to mind that it is ap- parent that the study of a language can mean more than you would ever think possible. Miss C. Falletta Mrs. S. Murphy Mrs. F.
