What Can We Give You In Return? All is done now, the school year has finished: we leave to begin a new life. For Seniors that life will be directed perhaps toward an increased education. For underclassmen, it will be directed toward a ful- fillment of their high school years. But as we look back at this past year, through Madonna '71, we see so much has been accomplished, so much has been gained and earned. As a school, we have learned to function, not as individual classes. We have learned to strive for unity and cooperation among faculty and students. lf we have achieved just a small frac- tion of that unity then we have achieved a thousand times more in understanding, for here lies the key to life, to humanism. And so as we reflect on these events, and on people in this book, in our school, Madonna, a feeling is conceived that perhaps can best be summed up in these words: The time has come for closing books and long last looks must end: as we leave we know that we are leaving our best friends: friends who taught us right from wrong, and weak from strong, that's alot to learn. What can we give you in return? Yes, Madonna, you've given us so much, what can we give in return?

Acknowledgements The last page has been turned, people are moving on, but the memories remain behind in everyone's minds. For us, there are memories, of layout paper, pica rulers, copy, people and long sessions of hard work. Yet, there are also ones consisting of the good times, the staff parties and the little puns, that gave us encouragement to continue on in spite of the tension and frustration we experienced. But to close this book without saying thanks would be like leaving without saying goodbye. First and foremost, we must thank Sister Audrey, who gave us inspiration and guidance while adding a little touch of humor each time we were down, To Sister Sheila we say thank you for allowing Madonna '71 to happen. Our financial situation would have been a disaster if it weren't for the concern and ability of Sister Rosella. Sister Teresa Marie, we thank for her pithy literary talent, and for staying with us in the last hours, when we were just a few words away from completion. Mr. Sloane, the company's representative, to whom we say a special thanks, displayed extreme patience while we matched our mittens to our cover. A thank-you to Mr. Darrell and Father Gang who helped capture Madonna in action. To Diane Kaput, a Detroit teacher, we say thank you, for instructing us in all the techniques that go into making a creative yearbook. Two people especially we must thank, Mary Ann Gaeta and Mary Snider. Mary Ann lent us a helping hand when we needed it most, even when it meant working till 11:00 P.M. Mary aided the copy staff when sickness plagued them, and found out that she had worked on the wrong publication after four years. And finally we come to our staff. What can we really say except without them there would have been no yearbookg Madonna '71 would have been a dream. Today, that dream is a reality and even though people are no longer in spirited presence, the vision that remains will continue forever, reflections that will never be forgotten.
