l S 2 i SOCIAL STUDIES The past, the present, and a glimpse into the future are offered to us in social studies. Why is there revolution, famine, progress, depression? What are the principles of democracy? How did the twisted doctrine of Communism arise? How is the American economy run? These and all the questions a student can dream of are answered. To take a course in social studies is to embark on a fascinat- ing educational voyage. Life takes on a new aspect as we learn about the cultures of other lands, their industrial development, their scientific progress and their needs and problems. We can understand why situations occur and even anticipate new ones which follow the pattern of the old. The modern pace demands that we be familiar with the world in which we live. It is essential to our genera- tion to be a constant observer of world affairs-quick to lend a helping hand when possible, and alert to guard against dangers to the remarkable world we inhabit. The all-purpose room is brightened with a display of citizenship educa- tion proiects on our neighbor to the north. S. Kotlarz, D. Sawicki, and S. Fitzpatrick admire the results of their labors.
