They made sure that our ties were straight' and checked to make sure we had the flower for our date, or had a nice dress for the big dance. They held supper for those of us who played athletics. They came to see our plays and supported our projects. They did so many little things which we took for granted and didn 't notice. Because of all these things and many more that we can't remember, we, the Class of 1958, proudly dedicate the 1958 Madisonian to our Parents. 4? v s-Q... ei 6' W rf N' I A1 R Chester Ramsey, Clerk. The 1957 Madison Ram Football schedule was the toughest in the history of the school. The team came out 2-6-1. The most important thing is not winning, but learning from our mistakes. When the boys went out on the field, they went out with the idea of winning and they never gave up. Even though there were losses, the fellows never became discouragedg and always displayed their best sportsmanship. -.W 'x Joe Hill, Ward Walters. This record is not a true picture of the ball club. The Rams have suffered three 5-point losses out of the seven. Madison's round ball aggregation this year is a well-rounded team with a fighting spirit and a good following. Basketball fever has been on the increase throughout this The Rams lack height more than anything else. Regardless of this, they still get their share of rebounds. Hard luck has plagued the Rams a few times this season when the basket apparently had a lid on it. All in all, the team is a fine representative of good sportsmanship and Madison can be proud of them. Se3S0l'l . Coach Sutter is always conposed . . . never excited. ITY Compiling a record of 9 wins and 5 losses the Mad- ison baseball club was the school's only winning team in 1957. In his first year as head baseball coach Mr. Robert Yoxtheimer guided Madison to its first city champion- ship since 1954 with a 4-0, 4-0 double header victory over the Mansfield Tygers. The Rams did this with a great desire to play base- ball and win. Their pitching staff was nothing short of great, yielding only 6 earned runs in 83 U3 innings for a phenomenal earned run average of 0.5. In the batting department it was adismal year. A team batting average of .165 is perhaps the lowest in Madison history. The team fielding average was .954. Every loss suffered by the baseballers last season was the direct result of errors in the field and weak hitting. lfthe pitching staff comes through and the hitting improves, it looks like a bright future for our Rams. Marjorie Maginness Cinderbugs Gain Experience I Track is still a comparatively young sport at Madison.. It was started in 1952 by Mr. McGee. Last year's track team dis- played good desire and sportsmanship. They put forth their best effort all season long, although they did not win any of their meets. Hampered by not having a track to practice on, the Ram thinclads work themselves into condition on the football field. This year's track team is studded with Juniors and un- derclassmen. As a result, the coming team at Madison should be better than past teams. Track is definitely on the upgrind here at Madison . The Future Teachers Association of Madison isa member of the Future Teachers of America. The club here at Madison was organized in 1952 with Mr. Wayne Miller as the ad- visor. The purpose of the club is to cultivate in the minds of the students a desire to become teachers. The club makes an annual trip each Spring to the grade schools where they teach a class for the day. This gives members a chance to observe class- room attitudes and activi- ties. Dues are Z3 cents a year. This year the officers were: Barbara English, President, Judy Fischer, Vice presidentg Bonnie Nei- man, Secretary, and Penny Hazen, Treasurer. Future Teachers Library 5Ci6l1C6 is a Service Organization which meets once a month in the li- brary. The students in the club discuss ways of improving li- brary facilities for the student body.
