Kyle Absher Adviser. J. McMahon The Madera Chapter of Future Farmers has an active membership of sixty. A wide range of activities has been carried on by the chapter this year. Every member of the chapter has conducted a supervised commercial size home project, making a splendid profit for each. The chapter has rendered valuable service to the community, entering a float in the Old Timer’s Parade, holding a ‘‘get-together’’ meeting for alumni and members, donating cash and shoes to the American Legion welfare fund, and contributing several hundred dollars worth of work to the community through the farm mechanics classes. Competing with others in the valley and state, the club’s teams have won recogni- tion in the contests. They have attended the Future Farmer Convention at the State Fair in Sacramento, the Pacific Slope Dairy Show in Oakland, and the Davis College of Agriculture Contests at Davis. Resulting from the excellent work in judging contests, the Madera chapter of Future Farmers ranks third at the end of six years of state-wide competition for the ten-year trophy donated by former Governor C. C. Young. The chapter also has the distinction of being selected as one of the San Joaquin Valley chapters to be entered in national competition for an outstanding year’s program of work, the winners to be decided next fall in Kansas City. Still further honor was added to the Club’s notable record when Calvin Jones won the state-wide Future Farmers oratorical contest at Los Angeles. Calvin smiles, and why shouldn’t he? Didn’t he win the first place in the State Oratorical Contest that the Fu- ture Farmers held in Los Angeles? And speaking of winners, Robert Albonico, Eva Mae Crowder, and Harold Aga- janian have won the highest scholastic honors that Madera can offer. Look at the Librarians. With that worthy crew to check and double- check is it any won- der that you have not a chance with an over-due book? Not all the credit for the success of the Junior and Senior plays was due to the ca ex- cellent acting. There was plenty of action back stage by those two very efficient production staffs that you see here. Virginia, Betty, Robert, Ardeth, and Gordon ére all win- ners in contests sponsored by the English Depart- ment. Can you find Miss Stoddard completely surrounded by the winners of the W. C. T. U. Silver Medal Contests? Silver - tongued orators! You can also see here a_ group. of those addicted to speaking extempor- aneously. T hey fought a royal bat- tle of words in the contest sponsored by the Lions’ Club. Some _ familiar faces and places. Hirst you see the conductors of the Madera High Street Car Line, the guides of the Madera Sightseeing Company, in other words, the Knights of the Steering Wheel who “take you for a ride” five days a week. Here are Mrs. Carpenter and her cafeteria girls (and Willie) who can “dish it out.” Miss Me typists are typing and Mr. Sheldon’s chemists are veeney’s “chemming”’. Can you guess why there is an ab- sence of smiles on the faces of the brothers Allred and Allred? Take a look at the dishes. Glance at the two good reasons why our building and campus are bright and shiny. Now for some athletes. The of- ficials of the Ath- letic Girls Tribe, and the Racqueteers who play a deuce of a good game _ be- cause they are Wrightly coached. Why, Mr. Yocum, are you here again? All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Here is how some of the Jacks and Jills keep from be- ing dull. me to the land of ice and snow must go — others like to listen to what the wild waves are saying — then, some have to listen to what a certain khaki - clad gentle- man has to say, oc- casionally. But many find that play time on cur own campus is not so bad. Too bad that some just can’t be torn away from their books, isn’t it! Tt even looks as though certain members of our fac- ulty had their play- ful moments. Do we need to tell you that this is ymposium of a ‘ Freaks? Madera Union High School became Madera Madhouse for one awful day when the Seniors (some of them) came forth in all their glory.
