Crossing the Line 12 February 1960 While the official Navy customs and traditions connected with Crossing the Line cerei monies are precise in every detail, the age old ceremony has only a small core of ritug which can be expanded in any direction that the Mighty Shellbacks' imagination ITIGY lea ' The Equator, altthough normally thought of as a straight line of no latitude and QiVi1'1g HO trouble to the neophyte navigator, will long be remembered as a bolt of lightning bY Over a thousand Macon men and members of the U. S. Navy Band.
