W 1: as 'Ulla 'im Mr. Edwards touches the hearts of all as he gives his final good-byes to the Seniors of '74, The graduating six-graders sit tensely as they wait for the presentation of their diplomas. Mr. Edwards congratulates Dianne Whatley as she gladly receives her long-awaited diploma. With mixed emotions these graduates begin those final steps away from MA as students.

Lynn Long's determined expression reveals the extreme concentration each MA Varsity cheer- leader must possess to achieve perfection in cheering. jinnie Webster and jane Edwards spent much of their summer vacation at a Baptist Church Camp in Shocco Springs. lane Sheppard and Rodney Cox represent many of MA's mountain riders during the adventur- ous summer months. Before beginning her dazzling week long stay at Girls' State, linnie Webster checks over her luggage. MA Students, lndustrious Yet Carefree The termination of the '73-'74 school year marked the commencement of still another lazy, carefree summer for most MA students. But for a few stu- dents with an eagerness to be useful and overpowered by a lust for money, summer employment was acquired. The more leisurely groups indulged in such activities as working with home- town clubs, baking under the smelter- ing sun, roaming the hills of Tennes- see, daydreaming in the fantasy land of Disney World, or simply doing and seeing as much or as little as possible. While the industrious students spent their precious summer vacation work- ing in local department stores, dairy bars, hospitals, camps, and various odd jobs. Armed with opened minds and an ea- gerness for perceiving new revela- tions, the cheerleaders, majorettes, and flags ventured to clinics in hopes of gaining new insights toward the betterment of their individual organi- zation. Their many hours of laborious work proved beneficial and well worth the effort as they were awarded top honors. Conducting a clinic- of their own, the MA Band practiced several hours a week in preparation for the upcoming football season. Representing MA at Boys' State, Guy Whatley and Billy Segrest traveled to Troy State University where the con- ference was held. They practiced and learned the military and governmental functions of our stateg jinnie Webster represented MA at Girls' State which was held this year at Huntington Col- lege in Montgomery. Receiving the good citizenship award was one of the various honors bestowed upon linnie during the week. 21
