These characterized not only the College but all of higher education during their four years. MacMurray College provided the continuity through the core of philosophy and principles developed with you by a devoted faculty. We believe that liberal and humane purposes, striven for through the content of the course or the measure of a teacher, will remain long after profes- sional or vocational information has been used, or not used, and put to rest. But the discontinuities— the uncertainties, the confrontations, the changes— of the late 60 ' s served as a prelude and as an introduction to the breaks and revolutions in thought and action expected in the decades ahead. At MacMurray, methods of thought, taught through the dis- ciplines, were stressed. But we also experienced movements for change occurring outside the formal coursework, many of them unplanned and unexpected by the larger community. But the larger community did plan and sanction other changes. The idea that anything worth doing is worth doing poorly did not rest comfortably with the academic tradition that all things attempt- ed should be completed in perfection. Yet, the humane purposes of the College led to an accom- modation of both ideas at MacMurray during the collegiate experience of the Class of 1970. This senior class— today ' s students, tomorrow and forever alumni— have joined together to put forward our College. With those who have gone before and those who remain behind, we are bound together in a most noble endeavor, part of which includes the development of MacMur- ray College as an instrument of human service and good. Henceforth, you are MacMurray Col- lege and MacMurray College is you. Our faith, our hopes, and our confidence reside in you and with you. John J. Many facets of campus life and the MacMurray Community may seem to be overlooked, but how much can be expected from a staff of ten to fifteen people? The lack of cooperation from the students made compiling the yearbook difficult. Yet, how would the same student body react if a yearbook were not published? It is only through the concern of a few that the 1970 Tartan is presented to you, the student body. We do greatly appreciate the efforts of those who were concerned. Our thanks to Deb Smego for her ceaseless efforts in laying out pages and proofreading, to John Robertson for his management of the business aspect of the yearbook and to the rest of the editorial board and Tartan staff for their assistance in completing the yearbook. We also extend thanks to the photographers for their seemingly endless job of produc- ing photograph upon photograph, to Public Relations for their consultation as well as their photographs, to the Women ' s and Men ' s Physical Education Departments for their patience and cooperation and finally to Bill Blewett, our yearbook representative from Taylor Publishing Company, for his enthusiastic and ready assistance.— bharon Mueller, and Bob Meyer, co-editors
