CHEMISTRY The goal of the Chemistry Department is to give students an understanding of the chemical changes taking place in the physi- cal world and their impact on society, and to develop students ' understanding and abilities to the point that they may enter industry or graduate school in the field of chemistry. The student is challenged to master organic, inorganic, quantitative, and phys- ical chemistry as well as laboratory techniques. Although the Chemistry major becomes familiar with other scientific fields, atoms and molecules and their relation to compounds assume paramount importance for him. W. F. Bailey.
