THE RESTLESS YEARS The restless years They were mdeed' Some of us are left who began together m kmdergarten. Our teacher M1ss Lorrame Sandberg was from the progresstve school. We took naps on our towels had cracker breaks every mormng and spent most of the year learnmg to work well wtth others We were werghed tw1ce a year and remembered llttle of what we were taught. In the first grade M1ss Ilene Young spent her DRUHII hours teachrng us to read She d1d an ex cellent Job Some of us st11l read today on rare occas1ons M1ss Corrme Faubel broke most of the boy s hearts m the second grade by gettmg marrred as soon as school was out. The hbrary was 1I1 the second grade room that year and we remmnber lt as an excellent place to hrde Ln. M1ss Ameha Everett our thrrd grade teacher 1S sull w1th us Under her gurdance we began to take an mterest m our studtes and extra work We remember her encourag1ng help 1n art faxrs and hatchmg cocoons and tn general, maktng school mteresung. The fourth grade and M1ss Langley w1ll always be synonomous to us We remember the spec1a1 blackboard w1th l'11StOI'1C31 events 1I1 colored chalk, the curtatns m the w1ndows and THE ADVENTURES OF REMI MISS Mane Young gulded us through the frfth grade. She taught us to be good students and good Sucth grade classes fotmd us w1th Mrs Euruce Sexton. School was fun that year w1th pottery makmg a baseball game to learn geography by and the d1SCOV61'y of Aprrl Fool's Day CWe had the perfect joke on our teacher when we wrote k1ck me on her coat. We forgot her daughter was one of our classmates J In the seventh grade we found ourselves tn the rnlddle of a hot spell and we remember fondly the teacher who recetved permrsston to let her class go barefooted Oh how unsophtsucated we were' Mrs Luey Sm1th made us tnterested rn nature wtth her goldftsh and turtles The seventh grade year found us pub11sh1ng our school paper The Seventh Grade Dragon Our last year U1 grade school saw us dabbltng tn Algebra, Htstory courses and other advanced etghth grade subjects M1ss Martan Ruff our teacher saw us through the excltement of commencement to hlgh school as we shyly graduated together w1th our new class mates from rural schools The rest 1sn't hrstory yer. You remember the freshman year when we planned our class party and postponed It four umes the sophomore skus the Jtuuor sen1or prom and the sentor superronty we all would hke to thtnk we reached Perhaps someday we ll come back agatn and talk about all this Unul then we can glance at th1s page to start the memortes ilowmg. . . , . . . We recall that we must have been the champion softball team on the playground that year.
