Out of the night, and out of the sea springs a beautiful nympth. She falls in love with a handsome knight, and they are married at court. All too soon, however, they learn that their love is too ideal to survive the shocks of this world: the dream and reality are worlds apart. 1 Produced by Special Arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. Coach Bill Shellenberger has been quoted as saying, I think this was the best team we've ever had of his 15-3 season. The L.C. Booters won the ODAC and VISA titles and came back from, at one time being 2-2. The team kept their headls up and it was their attitude and spirit teamed with a tremendous amount of talent that turned the tables for the Hornets. One of the biggest wins of the season included a 5-1 thrashing of archri- val Madison in Harrisonburg along with upsetting Randolph-Macon 2-1, avenging a season opening loss to the L'Yellow Jac- kets . Coach Shellenberger was named VISA, ODAC Coach of the Year, while Mike Duggan was named VISA Player of the Year. The All-ODAC Team consisted of Mike Duggan, Rick Osmer, Jed Dug- gan, Jim Noon and Jim Hahn. l4O 1976 Soccer Results Opponent Randolph-Macon Kutztown State Hampden-Sydney N.C. But what about two undefeated seasons? The L.C. track team was not satisfied with finishing 7-0 in indoor track and 14-0 in outdoor track. No, these devoted harriers had to go all out and win two ODAC cham- pionships as well, bringing home from Bridgewater, Mr. Aubrey Moon who was named Coach of the YCHIJ, in the ODAC. Records were constantly set and broken during the season. The outdoor track team set a record for the most track wins in an outdoor season and finished undefeated for only the 2nd time in the schoo1's history. But indeed the Hornets who started 2 freshmen, 4 sophomores, 3 juniors and only 1 senior in the ODAC championship game, went much further than many L.C. baseball fans thought possible. After their first 10 games of the sea- son L.C. was 5f5. Hampered by Coach Thomas' illness, bad Weather and bad luck, it looked like a long season for the Hornets. But gradually things began to fall in place - the weather got warmer, the hitting in- creased, the fielding improved and L.C. won 17 of their final 18 games. On May 17th it was announced that the Hornets were to host the Regional Toumaments in Lynchburg, proving their abilityeall the more. , , ., ,- D , . ., . This is to be done with no bias to any particular individual or group. lt is the intent of the Argonaut to create a reference for future years and represent the student body as a whole and the activities which took place. Any views implied or expressed in the Argonaut are not necessarily those of Lynchburg College. The above is an Editorial Policy which was written prior to the completion of the '77 Argonaut. Hopefully, all my expectations have been fulfilled. I would like to take time to thank all those who helped me this year, my staff, the photographers, without whom there could be no yearbook, Heidi Alber, Mr. Sumey, Charlie Garrison from Hunter Publishing who stood by me through thick and thin,,and last but not least the students of Lynchburg College for whom this book is intended.
