Dedication The Class of 1948 has asked me to announce their selection of Stuart l.. DeGelleke as the teacher of the year. Many students have learned not only the mysteries of mechanical drawing, general shop, and metal work through his capable instruc- tion, but many more have learned about bowling techniques in numerous after school sessions at the Lynbrook alleys. He can be seen at all of the major sports events, cheering on our team. In addition to the high school students who have profited by his ability as a teacher, many of our parents, several teachers, and members of the school board have been studying woodworking under his competent supervision two evenings a week as part of the Adult Education Program. All recognize him as an understanding, friendly, and industrious worker. Ask any L. H. S. student and he will invariably reply, Mr. DeGelleke? Oh, he's a swell guy! This in any language is a great compliment to one deserving nothing but our sincerest thanks. 4

Mr. Owl: Hold on there, fellow. Why so pensive? Bobby: Oh, I'm iust standing here, wondering what high school is like. I've just graduated from the grades, you see, and to be truthful, l'm a little worried. Mr. Owl: But I assure you, boy, there's nothing to worry about if you iust continue doing as you are told. I think you're concerned merely because you don't know what to expect. Bobby: Mmm, I suppose that's it. By the way, who are you? Mr. Owl: Some folks know me as the Class of '48: others as Good Sportsmanship, the two have always gone hand in hand. You'll soon learn, boy, that Good Sportsmanship is a steadfast tradition in L. H. S. Bobby: That's good to hear .... Say, what's that under your arm? Mr. Owl: This is a prized possession-a scrapbook of my wonderful days in high school. Bobby: May I see it? Mr. Owl: Certainly you may. And that gives me an idea. I'll explain each page as we go along: and in that way, you can find out about the school, activities and your future upper classmen. Bobby: That will be terrific!
