'YQ 45 'S Top Row Cleft to rightl MR WILLIAM T I-IEMMERICK graduate of Springfield College serves as a physical instructor in the Lynbrook schools besides coaching the varsity base ball team and freshman basketball squad MISS FRANCES K HOLMES is the one and only Latin teacher in Lynbrook High School She graduated from Syracuse University MR VERNON G HOWSE a music teacher attended Fredonia Normal School and Houghton College Mr I-Iowse teaches theory and directs the activities of the Glee Clubs MR I RAY IOHNSON our instructor of Ancient I-Iistory and Civics is a gradu ate of Waynesburg College He is also faculty adviser of The Owl Boys Alpha Hi-Y and Director of Activities. MRS. CHARLOTTE B. KINNE attended New York University Columbia and Oneonta Normal School. The subjects which Mrs. Kinne teaches are English I Civics and Economic Citizenship- she is also the Riding Club adviser. OWENS, our I-Iigh School Librarian, is a graduate of St. Lawrence University as well as New York State College. MR. WILLIAM K. PEARSALL, graduate of Rutgers and New York Universities, serves as Office Asistant to the principal in the new administration, in addition to his duties as teacher of European History and Science. ALPHA BOYS HIY OFFICERS Trcescher Ben Griffith GIRLS I-IIY OFFICERS Lubatty Helen Mulford BETA BOYS I-IIY OFFICERS Russell Buchanan Mr Milton Olson Iohn Wooq Chester Gould I-HY To create maintain and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character is the purpose of the H1Y which has steadily progressed during its eight years of existence until there is now a large girls division and two chapters in the boys group Each boys chapter had two sets of officers during the year The Alpha chapter was under the leadership of presidents Robert Moebus and Robert Troescher vice president for entire year Beniamin Griffith secretaries Vernon Spitaleri Vieth Griffith treasurers Robert Troescher and Alexander Boecker sergeants at arms Martin Spinelli and Robert Moebus The Beta chapter elected as presidents Russell Buchanan and Phillip Ingle vice presidents Frank Lehner and Chester Gould secretaries Chester Gould and Arthur Hug treas urers Iohn Woog and Allan Harder sergeants at arms Arthur Hug and David Plotkin The girls officers for the entire year were president Roberta Kirk vice president Helen Mulford secretary Iacqueline Lubatty and treasurer Geraldine Ward The H1Y held two very successful dances besides establishing the tradi tion of an annual spring and fall dance The girls activities included assistance to the Senior Red Cross by collect ing money at the Lynbrook Theatre' responsibility for the Iunior Red Cross roll call in the Lynbrook public schools- contributions toward flood relief' preparation of food baskets for needy families' a Christmas party for the alumnae- and the annual spring Mother and Daughter banquet. Among the outside speakers at the meetings were Mrs. Iaques Dr. Barrenson and the Colored Deputation Team from New York. To further the mental advancement of the members throughout the year the boys included in their activities discussions on important topics of the day led by several prominent speakers. The social program included Alumni Night a Father and Son dinner and also several Gym Nights on which there was interchapter competition in basketball and ping pong. Seventy girls turned out for this popular sport. At the beginning of the season they diligently practiced their stick work, dribbling, passing, and other techniques of the game. There were four class teams which played the corre- sponding teams from Mepham, East Rockaway, and Malverne. They met with varying amounts of success in these encounters. The sophomores won the intramural competition. The honor team was rained out of their play day at Adelphi. lt consisted of these girls: Rosemary Mapes, Doris Dies, Ruth Wilson, Virginia Karpman, Florence Chimenti, Eleanor Andreadis, Eleanor Grandinetti, Rita Sarro, Naomi Rosenhaus, Iune Wilson and Artemis Andreadis, With Rose Liebman and Ann Sarro as substitutes. Some of the boys who helped carry the junior pig skin toters through a mediocre season were: Rip Ratter, loe De Luca, and George Hoy the sea son's only major casualty, who broke his ankle in a losing battle against Oceanside's junior varsity. Other players who showed up Well were Harold Skidmore, George Martin, lack Mahoney, George Crandall Al and Darrel Tobin, lack Zwriz, lack Kuckens, Bob Borchers, Dan Ciaccio Henry Burkle and Bill Seebeck. Aside from the loss to Oceanside, the I. V. won from Great Neck lost to Baldwin and Valley Stream, and tied South Side.
