AND THIS IS WE WERE With the 9th grade can the girl who has caused Hayne and me so much trouble! She has caused Hayne trouble because she keeps saying NO to him and she has Caused me trouble because she keeps daying YES to jim! just joking, june, we're really proud you came to school here. Also' joining us were Fred Spurlock and Gerald Flowers. Buzzie Hargrove went out for football and Stanley Sikes and Mickey Smith were managers. james Armstrong, Patricia Davis, and Elese Hughes entered the 10th grade with us. Janice Finlay rejoined us from Red Level. This year june Brow was selected beauty and Patricia Davis was Homecoming queen. It was in the 10th grade that james Sipper began his creative works. He was risen from the short, simple essays to the class poet. In the llth grade Priscilla Mahone was top beauty fchosen by Perry Comoj. Although we had no additions to our junior class many things were accomplished and many tender memories were gained. We worked hard on our junior-Senior banquet and dance and put on what we think is the best ever. The theme was Star journey . Don Morgan was drum major of the Tiger's band and Gaye Smith was Homecoming attendant. This year we made history with several firsts. We were the first to announce the beauties before the annual was published. Priscilla Mahone and june Brown were our senior beauties. We were also the first to ever stop the clock at Beta Convention, first to ever vote Homecoming Queen into the L Club and the first to have a candidate for President of the Beta Club at Con- vention. Mary Holland King and Charles Clements were Good Citizenship Boy and Girl. Phyllis Smith was chosen for the F.H.A. Award, and Stanley Sikes and Joyce Richardson received .recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Contest. Tommy Fowler was awarded the Travis Holladay Memor- ial Trophy, Don Morgan won a place in the State Music Festival. jimmy Head was winner in the Baptist District Speaking Contest. Curtis Petrey was awarded an F.F.A. Now, we 're almost through our Senior year in high school. Something we have looked forward to for many years. To be a Senior at L.H.S. has taken mnay hours of hard work, worry, and dis- appointments. But, don't take me wrong--the good times and happiness we've shared have long over-crowded the other. Now, as we say good-bye to the future seniors of L.H.S., we know that we're saying good-bye to a place we all love, to the teachers who have been second mothers to us and as we enter into the world for the first time really alone, only now do we know what these twelve years have meant to us. In a few months, each of us will be on our own way of life, but D0 matter what path we choose, the years at Luverne have made their mark on us. So, now, as we depart, we say good-bye to each of you and leave you with this thought: Today we follow, tomorrow we lead. --Peggy Ann Ulm Class Historian BACK WHEN CUTE!
