i i ! ALBERT BROWN, S. P, A. President WHAT IS THE REAL PURPOSE OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL? A student Council is organized, maintained, and exists individually and collectively because is is ready, willing, and able to serve! Serve whom? A council serves its school, community, nation, and world. How does a council proceed to serve? First it organizes its constitution. It defines its areas of operation by considering its limitations and its sphere of influence. The council is not the end but rather it is a means to an end. Having defined its area of operation, the council is ready to look for service opportunities. You cannot solve a problem or serve as such unless you are well aware that there is a problem or that there is an opportunity for service. If you are aware of the problem or area of service and are able to handle it, you (council) are ready to serve! What are the possibilities of a council for service? If your eyes, ears, and heart are in tune with the problems and areas of service, you will find many opportunities. Therefore, take stock and look over the areas. Start with a service that you can perform with success! If we would serve, we must develop excellent public relations, parliamentary procedures, specific aims and objectives, a feeling of oneness, be lost in the course of service, and constantly evaluate ourselves as a council. Remember, what you and your council are, your service becomes!
