Juniors
On Tuesday, June 10,
1958, we won the first an-
nual Junior-Senior Relay
Race at Marshall Park. Our
coach was Mr. Leary.
Soon after the race was
begun by the class presi-
dents, the Seniors took the
lead. Their lead was grad-
ually trimmed until Bob
Eden closed the remaining
200 yard gap, the beginning
of the end for the Seniors.
Ed Walkonen took the lead,
and after great running by
Ken MacLean and Ray
Ostertag, Allen Hoffman
brought in the baton for
the finish.

Mystery stories were the favorite of everyone
--especially the Hardy Boys, Miss Magovern
really drilled us on those poems. Arthur joined

The Student Council is an organization which represents the student body. The Council promotes
better cooperation and understanding between the student body and the administration. The Student Council
also encourages school spirit, promotes student interest, and sponsors many worthwhile activities. For
the first time this year the Student Council published the "Torch," a student handbook. Every year the
Council sponsors the Competitive Class Plays: and buses to many athletic events. They have adopted
a program whereby letters will be given for scholastic achievement. They supervise the registration of
student vehicles. The Student Council also maintains a "gripe" box and invites students to come to their
meetings to discuss their "gripes,"
They were fortunate this year to have one of their members, Judy Salo, serve as Vice President
of the Wachusett League of Student Councils,

WAYNE CONRAD
FRED 'VI XKI
PETE PETERSON
Ayer-Our first Wachusett League game this season
was played at our gym. Our boys played a cautious
game at the beginning, knowingthe potential strength of
Ayer. Once the game had started, our boys did
not have too much trouble, leading for the entire
game by a large score. The final score was 64 to
35. Pete caged 18, Wayne 17, and Fred l5.0ur
second game with Ayer, played at their gym, was
much closer. The much improved Ayer team made
Lunenburg work harder to win the game. The final
score was 76 to 61 in our favor. Pete, Wayne, and
Fred were again the top scorers.
Ashby-This was definitely our most formidable oppo-
nent in the Wachusett League. Our first game with
Ashby was, as we had expected, a battle all the way.
We led by a few points at the end of each period. We
won by a score of 65 to 61, but at the expense of!
Fred, who was injured in the fourth period. Pete
led in the scoring department with 26 points. Ashby
defeated Llmenburg in our second game by two
points. We played one of the best games thus far
in the season, but we could not stop the tremendous
shooting of Bob Milliard. Barry played a tremendous
game, scoring 26 points. The final score was 67
to 65, which gave each team one loss in league
competition. The largest crowd ofthe season witnessed
the play-off game between these two teams at State
Teachers College Gymnasium. Although our boys
outran, Ashby all the way, we could not stop Mllliard.
Ashby became Western Division champions. Fred
and Pete put in most of the points for us, but all
for a 47 to 43 losing cause.
Pepperell-Pepperell was another team, like Ayer,
with great potential. The game was hard fought.
Lunenburg trailed by five points at the end of the
third quarter, but finally defeated the visitors by
the same number of points. The final score was
64 to 59. Pete, Barry, and Wayne carried the scoring
honors for Limenburg. We won our second game with
Pepperell by a score of 78 to 52, Our second team
saw much action in the fourth quarter. Fred was top
scorer with 24 points. Pete and Barry had 20 and 15
points respectively.
Narragansett - Lunenburg defeated Narragansett
Regional by a score of 55 to 24. Fred piled up
13 points, while Paul had 11 and Barry 10. Lunenburg
won its second game over Narragansett byascore
of 58 to 30, in their gym. Fred and Wayne nad 12
points each. Dick scored 10 points. Our second
team played a great deal in each of these games.
Townsend-Although Townsend is our archrival neither
town did much pregame rallying. The contest was
not rated as one of the top of the season. The whole
game was filled by the name of Fred Maki, who
scored the unbelievable sum of 44 points. The final
score was 92 to 41. The game played at Lunenburg
followed the same pattern. Barry, Pete, and Wayne
rated high in the scoring column. The second string
played half the game and Bunky, Paul. and Pete
Harris scored well. The final score was Lunenburg
74, Townsend 37.

time was 41 to 23 with Carol Irons as high scorer.
Our two games with Ashby were the hardest ones
to lose this season. In both games the girls fought
hard but Ashby gave them two defeats. The score
of the first game, which was played on Ashby's
court, was 50 to 45, In the second game we lost
by a score of 43 to 27. Captain Carol Irons was
top scorer in the first game with 14 points and
Pat Landry had 14 in the second.
Both games with Pepperell found Lunenburg on the
winning side when the game was over. At the half
of the second game L.H,S, had only a one point
lead over the Pepperell girls. In the final quarter
we pulled ahead and won. The scores were 53 to
43, and 54 to 41. Carol Irons was high scorer in
the first game with 18 points and Myrna Allen
had 24 points in the second game.
Two victories were chalked up for L,I-LS. when they
played Narragansett Regional. In spite of the towering
height of the opposing side, the Lunenburg girls won
both games. There was excellent defense play on the
part of the guards. Carol Irons was high scorer in
both games. The score of the first game was 45 to
34, and the second game was 45 to 49.
Meeting Townsend was no obstacle that Lunenburg
could not overcome. In both games, the excellent
teamwork and outstanding defense play really paid off.
Carol Irons had 20 points in the first game and Myrna
Allen had 22 in the second. The first game, played
on the visiting team's court, had a score of 49 to
38, and second game ended with L,H,S, winning again
by a score of 54 to 33.
