OUR PAST
They re off ff and runnung'
Thurty four entrues got set for the four mule race of Hugh School Eclucatuon
All of us were a luttle nervous at the startung gate but when the bell rang
gettung the first lap under way we fell unto a steady pace We took tume out
to have a Freshman Skatung Party whuch was a tremendous money makung
attractuon We hated to see that Arlen Ayers Nelson Hamm and Jum Ruddle
had been scratched
At the begunnung of the second lap we were rudung hugh on the crest of
self confldenc Wuth the arruval of Joyce Hollungsworth we were all un the
sturrup ready to pound the turf of algebra world hustory and undustrual arts
The sophomore year offered the Sweater Swung and we thurty three members
worked hard to see that ut was enuoyed by all
As hugh spuruted uunuors we began to show more unterest un school actuvutues
for we realuzed the flnush lune was now wuthun sught Although Eluzabeth Johans
mann had left us Albert Wall Don Donlun Donna Brownurug Mullue Sanford
and Earl Roeder brought theur talents to the Held Our play Beauty and the
Beef our movue and the Junuor Carnuval were the kund of work we enuoyed
doung Wuth the help of the senuors we made the Junuor Senuor Prom a huge
success There were even some whose dancung would put Natuve Dancer to
shame' Thus was not an easy lap however because our lockeys Muss McDanuel
and Mr Kuncaud saw to ut that we dudnt stray from the track of learnung
We were now comung down the stretch spurred on by Muss Reynolds and
Mr Ducken and wuth Gary Lukey holdung the reuns The magazune and Chrustmas
card sales candy sales at football and basketball games the senuor play
Mother ls a Freshman electuon of the annual staff votung on rungs orderung
unvutatuons and cards and havung puctures taken all thus was enough to wear
down any young thoroughbred to a slow trot But the members of the Class of
54 are natuves of the Bluegrass State wuth a strong and proud wull to be the
best ln our struggle wuth Macbeeth physucs math and commercual subuects
the twenty eught members of the class found that good old horse sense plus
some chompung at the but brought the desured results Before we knew ut we
had our noses under the wure and ut was decuded that Daytona Beach was the
udeal place for us to be turned out to pasture
And so the Class of 54 was guven a horseshoe of roses and a duploma
makung us proud of our successful completuon of thus most umportant race
and hopeful that the future achuevements of the Class of 54 wull brung honor
to Lud'ow Hugh School and our natuve Kentucky

OUR FUTURE
iff
Right now we are going to try to Imagine what the old town will look
like ten years from now We are going to roam through our town and see If
we see any of the grads of 54
Down on Oak Street we see that theres a new office building Lets look
at the office directory and see nf any of them are here Right at the top of the
lust we see the name of Russ Anderson who has set up a very profitable
medical practice and who is very ably assisted un his chores by Bntha Hanlon
DsC his nurse but who unexplamably has been interested an the funeral
parlor downstairs
Next on the lust we see Albert Fords name under the banner of the
Fords Finer Pharmacy Al is reputed to have the best most complete pharmacy
in the north of Kentucky
Down on the ground fioor again we see a neat dignified sign over a door
It says Don Digger Donlnns Little Mortuary Below this as a motto If
Anderson cant prescribe for it and Ford cant fill ut call Donlm Ill bet Don
makes a million too
On the sublect of drug stores we hear that Joy Salmon is giving Al fits
now by stealing all of his customers away to Brown s Better Pharmacy In which
While we are wandering around we might as well saunter down to the
old school house and see if there ns any of the 54s around there
Who is this big long lanky figure wandering dawn the halls toward
us is it Mr Tipton? Why no nts Gary Lukey who has taken over Mr Tnptons
old duties as the head of the math department of L H S and domg quite
well too
Up In the office we spy none other than our old classmate Marge Denham
who has inherited the title of dean of gurls from Miss Reynolds she also teaches
English and History
Mr Dlcken left L H S a few years ago and placed has duties as Annual
sponsor and chemistry and physics teacher upon the capable shoulders of
Don Woolley
Down In the grades we find Lois Moak teaching the third grade their
arithmetic and spelling and history They say shes a swell teacher except
that she yells too loud
Over at the old Rlgney Stadium we find Coach Joe Daley now mentor of
the Ludlow eleven running his boys through a little drill The story as that he
has the hottest prospects ln the state this year
Ruth Klener has some hot prospects this year too for the first time since she
has taken over as womens athletic director at old L H S They say she has
finally got a team that can beat the Bellevue G A A
