HISIORY Ola LHP CIASS O14 52 On September 7 1948 a group of slightly frightened yet proud teen agers are seen wanting to board a huge DC 6 the LHS Constellation first stop the mysterious Land of the Freshmen' The passenger list consisted of thirty seven studen s with Mr Haddix and Mrs Hale as pilot and co pilot Our ponsoring of the Freshman Skating Party was the high point of the flight during which we flew non stop over obstacles in the forms of general science civics English I and math Because of the rough nature of the trip five of our fellow passengers bailed out for parts unknown In the fall of 'I949 the remaining students were more self confident as Mr Padgett and Mrs Roades took over the positions as our pilots for the more difficult trip through the Sophomore Hemisphere The more rugged territory over which we passed was dotted with biology English Il health and first and and world history Some of the male members of our class earned a name for themselves in the field of sports while others were well started on a four year career in the band During football season we established what later became the annual Sophomore Sweater Swing We proudly placed our first large con trnbution of funds toward the Senior Trip in the capable hands of Mrs Carson the school treasurer Exams finished and report cards completed we prepared to embark on one of the biggest laps of our itinerary Our crew for this flight consisted of Mr Kincaid and Miss Thatcher and student pilots Patsy Jenkins President Tom Daley Vice President Virginia Johansmann Secretary and Dave Whitley Treasurer Here we were in the vast regions of the Junior Mountain Range with which almost caused our rapid descent But in spite of these threats we found time for the usual activities of upper classmen These included the Jumor Carnival the Jumor Senior Basketball Game selling at the athletic events the Jumor Movie Snake Pit and the great dramatic performance of The Galloping Ghost under the direction of Mr Kincaid fThe Lion Hearted! At last we took off for what was to prove the most exciting year of our school career During this final flight toward Graduation we earned our wings under the guidance of Miss Reynolds and Mr Dicken and the leadership of Sam Swanson President Patsy Jenkms Vice President Tom Hulmg Secretary and Dave Whitley Treasurer The year was made engoyable by events such as the Semor Movie The Blue Lagoon the Junior Senior Prom the publication of the Annual Memories under the supervision of Mr Dlcken and the successful production of the semor play Here We Go Again ' directed by Miss Reynolds Tom Daley our football hero was selected to play in the East West All Star football game played at Lexington in August 1952 Our basketball idol Ray Windhorn led the team throughout the season as an outstanding center These are not the only VlPs though our very capable Don Ratllff was named the best athlete of L H S Finally with diplomas in hand and a very memorable lourney behind US twenty eight happy seniors set our course for sunny Daytona Beach Florida THREE POINTER HERE WE COME' Patsy Jenkins and Joan Rickelman WI X W ' 1 X N N X 3 7 1 J ,I .
