Autumn Homecoming '78 - A Success
1978 Homecoming Court
QUEEN: Tammy Ha I s
KING: Tom Wilson
28
Our 1978 Homecoming was an overall
success. The Mighty Cubs triumphed to victory
over Seneca East, 27-6, as Queen Tammy
Harless reigned over the festivities. The periodic
rain may have dampened the playing field, but
did nothing to dampen the spirits of all who later
danced to the sounds of disc jockey, Ron Allen.

Publications At Lucas Are Gaining Subscribers
Bear Facts
Many innovations have occured at Lucas and
the "Bear Facts" newspaper was no exception.
Edited by Chris Niswander, the paper was
expanded to a larger size and used the services
of a new printer. The results were apparent in
increased sales at the school. Ed's Dairy Bar
sponsored a challenging puzzle in each issue.
Kevin Little, amused all with his graphic
interpretations.

Lucannus
This years yearbook staff
shows up large on a picture but
as usual a few carried the
burden of the publication.
Seniors on the staff worked
especially hard to make this
edition of the Lucannus one to
remember. The staff sincerely
hopes all at Lucas find this
edition one that they are as
proud to keep as the staff was
to put out.

Lucas Prepares For A Future Music Program
The strength of the future music program at Lucas High School lies in the talents of the beginning music
students in the Junior High. Lucas now has a sixth and seventh grade band which will be enlarged to include
the eighth grade next year. General music for seventh and eighth grades provides some of the choral skills
needed for Senior High choir.

plans and carries out a well rounded program is
eligible for this honor. Two degrees of

Last Minute Scores Stop Cubs
Although this year's team ended up with a 2-8 record, this did not reflect the hard work and dedication
that our football players put forth. Going into the 1978 football campaign the Cubs lacked experience in
many areas and they could not put points on the scoreboard. Next year the Cubs will have a team that will
be out to improve this years record.

Rumor has it that John Banks slides in whenever he wants to get even
with Nlom.
Our '79 baseball team encountered
some difficulties during their
season, beginning with the
absence of their ball diamond.
Instead, they managed to secure
Wayside ball park, that is, until
softball leagues began.
Nevertheless they chalked up a 4-
10 record along with the honor of
becoming Sectional Champs. The
l

Cubs accomplished this by first
defeating Crestview, 1-O, then
smashed top seeded New London,
8-4.

The Juniors main goal this year was to raise
enough money to provide the Seniors with a
prom. Candy sales and a dance boosted the class
treasury to meet their goal. The Juniors are a
vast variety of sizes, shapes, and talents. The
male members of this class have taken a great
interest in gourmet cookery and provided the
faculty with several noontime feasts. Junior
athletes are hopes for future teams and all the
programs should be stronger next year as a
result.

Sophomores bought their class rings this year.
From S60 to S100 and a whole lot in between is
what the sophs had facing them when they
made that big deeieieh. Leadership ih high
schools is most evident in the senior class, but
what has to be remembered is that the training
took place in the underclassmen years. Sophs
worked hard this year to increase their treasury
by selling wrapping paper, sponsoring dances,
and trying to pawn off last years old spirit
buttons.

The Freshman class is one of the largest at

The 82ers had a successful dance in October

As the 1979 Senior Class departs to mark a place in Lucas history, another mark is merely
being born. The Lucas Heritage School is in its final stage of completion and will soon be
reverberating with the voices of anxious students and eager fans. With the growth of this
fixture comes not only the growth of future Senior Classes by also the whole of Lucas
education.
