Suddenly, to my surprise, a familiar face came on the screen. I sat up and began to take notice. Bud Baughman, news commentator for W. M. A. N.-F. M. was inter- viewing the class of 1949 at our class reunion which I was unable to attend. The first family to be interviewed was Professor and Mrs. Gerald Kline and sons. Mrs. Kline is the former Ruth Jones of Lucas, Ohio. Gerald reported spending his time between Cornell and his dude ranch in Texas. Ruth seemed to keep herself quite busy with the boys. Bud then called up to the mike the now famous Bob Stine Berger, pitcher for the New York Yankees. Stine told of seeing the famous New York stage play Oklahoma co-starring our old classmates Philip Bright and Ruth Wareham Thompson. It seems Ruth married her business manager Lawrence Thompson. I wonder what happened to Phil? Home on leave from boot camp, Don Hawkins spent most of his time in Dr. Heilman's office. Must have been heartache. They told Bud they would be the featured attractions ,on Bride and Groom come next June. Richard Edward Orewiler, Esq., now sole heir of the Orewiler Construction Company, Mifflin, Ohio, brought his private secretary Rondabelle Warner to the reunion. Dick looked strong and healthy as if he had had plenty of sleep since Ronnie took over. Approaching the mike was a tall beautiful blonde that looked un- familiar to me. But following her was a very familiar face, my old class- mate, Shinny. The state of Virginia must have been good to him. . Perhaps the rumors of his Club Casino and Virginia Derby are true.. Q 4 - f I V il 0 15 s 44 f 4? ' 1 04 Bud then introduced his former basketball partner and now Hollywood idol, Harry Harvey. With Harry was another former classmate, Ann McCammon, the new Mrs. Van Johnson. The gossip columns stated that Harry Harvey was returning to wed his high school sweetheart after an un- happy courtship with .Tudy Canova. Bud said he had a great surprise for our class alumni. The girl we knew as Norma Doggett in our high school days is now the mother of the royal princeling, Michael George Edward Charles of Wales. She told of her interesting experiences on the Transatlantic Clipper on the flight over. Last but not 1east, Bud said, are our two illustrious classmates, Mr. Beryle Yeater and Miss Joan Russell, who are now President and Secretary of the Yeater Accounting College. Beryle said his c allege was small but thought that someday it would be a much vied for school. Bud ended the program with, I am sorry that one of our classmates, Jean Partin, has been unable to come, but I hope she is watching this program. Jean is a secretary to Cecil B. DeMille and leads a very busy and prosperous life. We have brought before you a picture of what our class is like today. We think that our class motto, Our Aim: Success, Our Hope: To wing has been achieved by this very industrious and highly intelligent class of l949. 1 16 E - E sf' CLASS WILL. This was the place where we would make friends, play and learn together for the next twelve years. Those left to graduate this year out of the first twenty-five are: Sidney Baughman, Ruth Jones, Joan Russell, Donald Hawkins, Gerald Kline and Glenn Shindeldecker. Up through the first eight years we had a lot of fun, but we caused our teachers many hardships. Our teachers, through the first eight years were: Mamie Duncan, Ina Weatherbie, Mary Tucker, Winifred Garber, Dorothy Miller, Iris Bailey, Margaret Titschinger, Martha Farry, Glenn Mowers, Isabelle Hoffman and Donna Rupert. In our Freshrnan year we started out with a bang, because we were in high school, and thought we were pretty big. Our class advisor that year was Mrs. Andrews. One of our first class parties was held at the home of Joan Russell, where we had a Wiener roast and hay ride. Later on we held a Christmas party at the school. Our officers for our Freshman year were: Norma Doggett, President, Vivian Au, Vice-President, Joan Russell, Secretary and Treasurer, and Richard Orewiler, News-Reporter. We had two new students, Joyce Harris and Patricia Campbell, and three left us. They were Virgil Ernsberger, Omer Brown and Patricia Campbell. Next we started our Sophomore year with four new students. They were Mary Scholler, Helen Bucher, Peggy Brook and Robert Berger. Our class officers were: Sidney Baughrnan, President, John Stacy, Vice-President, Norma Doggett, Secretary, Richard Orewiler, Treasurer, Ruth Jones, News- Reporterg and Miss Titschinger, Class Advisor. We had a few class parties. One of them was held at the home of Ruth Jones with a slurnber party held for the girls afterwards. When we entered our Junior year we had three new students, William Keller, Lawrence Thompson and Jean Partin. During the year, William Keller, Kenneth Sauder, Junior Kaufman, Peggy Brook, Harriet Blackstone, Mary Scholler and Joyce Harris left for various reasons. Our officers were Gerald Kline, Presidentg Robert Harvey, Vice-President, Norma Doggett, Secretary and Treasurerg News-Reporter, Peggy McCammon and Mr. Ruby, Advisor. This was a very busy year. First we presented the Junior play. Beauty and the Beef. We worked hard to have one of the most successful Junior-Senior Proms in May. Later in May we had a wiener roast at Mohican State Forest Park. Then in July we had a farewell party at Long Lake for John Stacy, who, with his family, moved to New Springfield, Ohio. We presented him with a pen and pencil set as a token of our sincere affection In our last and best year we gained one new student, Ruth Wareham, and lost three, John Stacy, Helen Bucher and Lucille Crider. Z0 First of all we chose our officers to guide us through this eventful year. They are: President, Gerald Kline, Vice-President, Donald Hawkinsg Secretary, Norma Doggett: Treasurer, Pat Heilmang News-Reporter, Ruth Jones, and Mrs. Martha Farry, Advisor. We had a Christmas Party at Peggy McCammon's, and a birthday party for Mrs. Farry at her home and a wiener roast and hay ride at Pat Heilman's. Our Senior year proved to be the most exciting and busiest of all our ' career. We selected our caps and gowns, our announcements and name cards. We chose as class motto Our aim, successg our hope, to wing our flowers--Red and White Carnations, and our colors--Maroon and White. We were busy with picture taking, both for the Annual and for our- selves. . In spite of the work, we took great pleasure in looking forward to the Junior-Senior Prom where we were guests of the Junior Class. Another bright spot was reached when we received our diplomas on May 17th. To highlight our school days, we left shortly after commencement on a six-day tour of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, Chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Farry. In years to come we will look back on our days at Lucas and remember fondly our associations and happy days and be proud that we were part of the class of '49. An inspired Lucas team then defeated a favored Lexington team 39-37. We then defeated Union and Butler, but were defeated by Bellville. When you get through, lay the papers on my desk. When Jack finished, he laid the papers on Miss Welch's desk, marked off a space on the blackboard and wrote: Dear Miss Welch, I have writ, 'I have gone home,' one hunnerd times and now I have went home.
