His smiling face is familiar to all who work with him, for he is as pleasant as he is energetic and serious. His efficiency is recog- nized by all, and his fair judgment is appreciated and respected. This year, his twenty-third in the Lubbock Public School system, is his .second year as superintendent. Mr. Matthews holds a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Methodist University and a master of arts de- gree from Texas Technological Col- lege.

Cfficers of the Student Body Ray Simmons Bill Carter President Vice-President Mary Frances Payne Secretary The student body officers are elected in the spring by the entire student body. They also serve as the oyjzicers of the Student Council. Other members of the Council are the class oljzicers who are elected at the first of each school year. The purpose of the Student Council is to provide a means of student partici- pation in school government, to stimulate student activity, to develop citizenship, to recognize work of merit, to act as a medium of service, to ojter a means of co-operation between students and faculty, and to promote the general welfare of Lubbock High School.
