Well, I left my happy home to see what I could find out. I left my folk and friends with the aim to clear my mind out. STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION In LOYOLA UNIVERSITY IN NEW ORLEANS 6363 ST. CHARLES AVENUE NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA 70111 To the Class of 75: I would like to extend to each of you my welcome to Loyola University. You are entering Loyola University during perhaps the most interesting period in its long and distinguished history. The events of the recent past here and on other campuses around the country have raised serious questions about the nature and purposes of higher education. College is a place to question, to criticize, to become involved, to think and to search for meaning. I hope that you will find at our university, your university, the opportunity to do all of these things. I hope that you will feel that this is your university. The faculty and facilities are important in providing structure for the college, but it is you, the students, that give it life and substance. Your interest in the university, your participation in all phases of college life, and the efforts you put forth to help develop a better environment for yourselves and for your fellow students will determine the destiny of the university. A meaningful student government is possible only if the students provide support and creative ideas. Your officers can work to meet your needs only to the extent that you make them known. The primary function of a student government is to help the students create a self-fulfilling environment and the success of this depends on you. Your education at Loyola is not restricted to the classroom. The efforts that you make to govern yourselves, to exercise freedom with responsibil- ity, and to realize that failure to do this may result in imposed authority, will provide you with the type of education that will have real meaning in your social-political lives after graduation. Congratulations on your admission to Loyola. In behalf of all members of the Student Government Association, I want to wish you a happy, active and productive four years. Sincerely, Sam Grenorio VJ Sam Gregorio SGA President
