SPECIAL EVENTS Twenty-five years ago Lourdes graduated twelve special people. These were the first graduates from Lourdes Central. The valedictorian that special year was Mary Kay Friede, and our salutatorian was Linda Esser. The senior class officers of 1960 were Mary Kay Friede - President, Patricia Durr - Vice President, Linda Esser - Secretary, and Arnold Ziels - Treasurer. Since there was no football team yet, there was no Homecoming royalty, however Mary Kay Friede and Arnold Ziels led the Grand March at prom. The Snow Queen for 1960 was Madeline Sasse. Our first Homecoming royalty were crowned in 1964 and they were Frank Heng and Judith Oelke. 25

Rick shows off his grass skirl! Could this really be the seniors? This year a couple of new days were added to spirit week. The seniors chose “Nerd Day”, the juniors- “Hawaiian Day”, the sophomores- “Defiance Day”, and the freshman chose “Punk Rock Day”. Spirit Week started out with “Punk Rock Day” on Monday. The students, as well as the teachers, got into the spirit by wearing “punk” clothes, wild hairdos, and last, but not least, all sorts of strange make-up. On Tuesday, the Administration allowed the students a little more freedom than usual. The students could be seen wearing headphones in class, chewing gum and even watching T.V. in the library.
