GOVERNOR BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors is composed of sixteen members who are appointed by the governor for a term of fourteen years. The governor is an ex-officio member of the Board. These citizens from all parts of the state function as a spokesman for the uni- versity in the state legislature from which operational funds are obtained. The Board of Supervisors has been urging the legis- lature for additional funds for building purposes. The Board has also encouraged a raise in university teachers ' salaries. GOVERNOR ROBERT F. KENNON Governor Robert F. Kennon began his ascent to the governor ' s mansion while a student at L.S.U. As a fresh- man, he had the highest scholastic record in his class and received an award for the best average in the university. He was a captain in the R.O.T.C., and he received a l etter in both football and tennis. Mr. Kennon was presi- dent of the Y.M.C.A., a member of the Honor Council, vice-president of the Inter-Fraternity Council, a member of the University debate team and of the Scabbard and Blade Society. After receiving his LL.B. degree from L.S.U. in 1925, Governor Kennon began his law practice in Minden. At the age of twenty-three he was elected mayor, the young- est in the nation at that time. Mr. Kennon served with distinction with the Ninth Army in Europe, where he was decorated by King Paul of Greece. Since his election in 1952, Governor and Mrs. Kennon have been residing in Baton Rouge with their three sons, Kenwood, Charles, and Robert Floyd, Jr., who is attending L.S.U. 26
