The staff of the GUMBO present in these pages a portrait of L.S.U. Like all good por- traits it does not attempt to draw every detail but concentrates upon those which reveal character and personality. It suggests far more than it describes. Here in skillful blending are the things, the places, the people, and the activities which make up the University. Their acquaintance is the common property of us all; and, yet, every page will mean something different and special for each of us. It will revive memo- ries that belong to each of us individually but which were made possible because we were parts of the whole University community. This is the half century GUMBO. It portrays in size, complexity, and influence a uni- versity undreamed of fifty years ago. In starting a second half century we may expect changes equally startling, but the memories here recorded will be no less cherished. For this achievement the GUMBO staff deserve our congratulations for such a fine climax to the first half of the century and such a worthy beginning of the second. JJaro J W.
