With one member from each college appointed by the Presi- dent of the Student Body from a list of three students recom- mended by the dean of each college, the Honor Court func- tions as the judiciary organization of the Student Body. Organized in 1933, the Honor Court has fostered honesty and integrity by administering justice efficaeiously and im- partially. As provided in the Student Constitution, the jurisdiction of the Honor Court appertains to any student action which would bring discredit upon the student or upon the Student Body. Punishment ranges from being probationed to dis- missal. Decisions of the Honor Court are final, except that the President of the University or his representative in disciplinary cases, the Director of Student Life, shall have power to reduce any sentence imposed or to order a retrialf' 26 '-CWI ,q , JOHN L. The Student Council is the highest legislative group of the Student Body. Some of the major projects for the year were the sponsoring of the Open Houses at all the football games and Homecoming and endeavors to promote better relations between student and faculty groups. Rather than have various agencies appealing to the Student Body throughout the year, the Council inaugu- rated a Campus Chest Fund Drive with its overall pur- pose being to conserve the student's time by having one united drive. Under the commission system, the Student Council conducted various investigations and research on matters allccting student welfare. The Council went on record as being unanimously in favor of organizing a Louisiana Federation and ap- pointed as delegates to a convention three members who assisted in drawing up a constitution to present to the Student Body in the spring elections. In order to aHlord the individual student a more direct voice in his student government, the Council set up in each college a College Council with the president of the college as its head. For the purpose of providing more entertainment for all groups of college students, the Council endorsed and sponsored the Swing Inn dance project. - Chester Freeman, co-chairman of the Student Housing Com missiong Wilbert H. Wendell Craftg Secretary Joseph The Student Senate functioned for the nrst time this year under the new amendments which cut the number of the Senate from 96 to 45 members. This year's Sen- ate has been more active than has most of the Senates in the past. Among thc various activities that the Senate has effected, the revision of the Louisiana State University Constitution was one of the main projects. The old constitution, in view of its vague and misrepresented phrasing, had aroused considerable confusion among students. W. Carmena, Jr. Another important commitment of the Senate was the part it played in forming the various College Coun- cils. Each Senate member holds a seat on the College Council he represents, thereby closely relating the Coun- cils with the Senate. The Student Senate has proved that there is a de- finite need for its existence because it offers a more direct representative student government, making possible more direct representation to the individual members of the Student Body.
