N i , A 'L f 1 ff' , Y 1 Y Y 1 Though you the Seniors of 1949 are proud of the achievements of the past, be it ever mindful that you recognize the responsibilities of the present and future. Some of you gave unstintingly of your services in combat, in research and in programs related to mili- tary instruction and trainingg and thence you came to the University to pursue an academic goal. Now you are off again across a new path of life. With the experiences of the past, the still vivid im- pressions of World VVar II and the intellectual refinement of the University, know that it is time now to act. to work ever harder and ever more seriously. Know you that your families, your community, the state of Louisiana and your nation shall expect and demand greater participation in and greater fulfillment of your duties as citizens of a better and a more peaceful world. As you move onto the stage of a new life, be aware that this is your generation into which you must inject a meaningful and happy lifeg for, it is with this faith in the Seniors of 1949 that the 1949 GUMBO is respectfully dedicated. 1 ,- ' ,M
