Well, ah, that probably depends on how you look at it; a slave, that is. A nnen ' s slave auc- tion got underway on November 17. with the proceeds going toward lights for the tennis courts. Mike Ball, M.C., started by introducing the men to be sold and the four escorts. Next, Scarlett Long read the rules. Buy- ers, who would enjoy the services of their slave the following day, have to respect the morals of their slave. Slaves cannot be asked to incur debt or to violate cam- pus rules in any way. The twenty-two slaves brought in from $4 to $28 each. Auctioneer Ray Mize jested that A man gets embarrassed when he gets down to his socks, but nobody revealed that much! John Ford managed to bring in the top Girl were out for muscle and Marcus Keith was ready to fill the order dollar with his shorts as well as his socks intact. When Marcus Keith tried to take his shirt off, one of the escorts had to untie his tie because he had his shirt on back- wards. When his bid jumped to ten dol- lars, he took off his hat and said, fan that woman. David Collins promised to take everyth- ing off for $25, but the girls didn ' t buy: his bid only reached $9. Jimmy Masters tried his hardest to make his bid go higher, but all he was able to do was to throw his crutches down and to stand on one foot. As the night wore on. the women seemed to quiet down. Perhaps their pocketbooks had become as strained as their voices. Those lucky women who had succeed- ed in buying a slave were already dream- ing of the services they would receive to- morrow. Pleading nicely, Ward Sylvester tried to gain higher bids from the women f . am! wm 1.
