The spirit this year was a great improvement over last year because of student involvement in all sports. We did not accomplish much this year in the way of activities, but we had a fun year. I hope Lost River continues to improve and excel in everything they set out to accomplish. Members Of the Lost River Music Dep’t completed a most memorable year. The Jazz Choir Opened their musical season by pro viding the entertainment for the Klamath Basin Potato Festival Banquet. The Concert Choir and Concert Band presented its fin- est Christmas program ever, sending students and parents alike off in a joyous Christmas mood. As always, the Pep Eand provided spi- rit for pep rallies and basketball games. The Concert Choir and Cor Jert Band were both invited, as the sole class A entry in each, to compete in a contest for AA and AAA schools at Eagle Point. The choir placed second and the band fifth. The Stage Band journeyed to Pleasent Hill to compete in a contest.:for schools of all sizes, placing fifth in its division. In making its annual trip to Reno, the Jazz Choir was followed by one of the largest groups of parents, relatives, and friends ever in our school’s history. Participating in both divisions, jazz and show pop, the group performed extre- mely difficult music and very elaborate choreography in an incredible preformance. The musical year closed with a series of two very succesful concerts at home. The first one, the pops concert, showed each choir group performing by themselves in their own way. As a succesful P.S., the Jazz Choir performed at the graduation with each of the nine Seniors doing vocal solo. All in all, it was ,a very succesful year and I am looking forward to working with next year’s music.department. Blaine Mack £ i Middle Row. _ _ Wanamaker, T. Maupiru - - Front Row: L. Haskins, R. There was no exception to this tradition at IHHS this year. All the glitter and glamour went well as Fritz Verling was crowned Football Homecoming Queen and the Haider's went on to beat Sacred Heart 25 to 7« Potato Festival It waa an honor for me to represent Lost River High School as Potato Festival Queen Candidate. I would like to extend my thanks to my family and friends for their moral support and concern and to those people who purchased tickets for the Queen's Ball. It was a pleasure getting to know the chaperones and the candidates from othe'r schools. For me this was a very rewarding and ex- citing experience. M W a a r r Queen Candidate gSoOSQclo Very Interesting! Let's Cheer I The first basketball homecoming was a big success. The candidates were chosen by their class and then a jar was placed in the office for each one. The queen was chosen by which one had the most money put in her jar. Even though we did not win the game, we .all had a good time. The 1977-73 Girls Volleyball Team was the first from Lost River to participate in the Klamath County League. We began the season with great enthusiasm, but no experience. With much hard work from the members of both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, Lost River fielded a volleyball team of which we were all proud. By the end of the season we were able to give any team in the league a good battle and beat most of them. It was an extremely successful season. Janie Woodley G y m n a s t i c s Top to Bottom: R. State Track BLAST0 71 Lost River Runs to Victory! This was the 1st yea in Lost River history we qualified more than 1 boy for State- we had 3 go! Keith Scrone went in Discus; Brian Ross in shot; Monte Camp- bell in the 800; Pat Hess, Jim Clough, Monte and Kevin Mattson in the mile relay; and Kevin, Jim, Chuck Day, and Bill Gasser in the 440 relay. Bill Gasser also competed in the 200 m. dash and long jump, while Kevin made it to the finals in the high hurdles. The girls took an unprecedented 68 points to run away with the state cham- pionship. The closest team scored 36 points. Rhonda Day took a rare triple lst: in the high hurdles (14.60- a record); 200 intermediate hurdles (29.50- also a record); and the long jump (17 33 4 ). Nancy O'Neil tied that jump, but placed 2nd because Rhonda had a further 2nd jump. Rhonda was also voted the M.V.P.- a- ward of the State. Nancy also got 4th om the 200 (26.60). Also scoring points for the team were: the mile relay team consisting of Fritz Verling, Pam Kandra, Patsy Reynolds, and Sally Taylor. They took a close 2nd (4:11:80); Ann Taylor took a 4th in the 1500 (4:48:80) and a 5th in the 800 (2:25:70); Lisa Nichoson was 3rd in the high jump (5'3 ) and the 400 (59.30). Patsy Reynolds ust barely missed going to the finals in the high hurdles, as did Fritz Verling in the 400 and Nancy O'Neil in the 100. Georgee Pappe had her best time of the year and placed 7th out of a field of about 20. Lisa McKillop did a nice job of competing in the high jump and also placed among the top 10. -78 S P • i r • i t As summer comes close our memories of our winning seasons begin to fade. But, as summer ends and new seasons begin, the memories of our winning spirits will begin to rise all over again.
