The Los Angeles College of Chiropractic Clinic has a three-fold purpose. First, to make
the clinic the best equipped and best staffed institution of its kind in the world. Second, to give
to the intern a thorough training in conducting a complete physical examination. Third, to render
to the community a service of which we can all be iustly proud.
ln order to reach these obiectives the school has adopted a departmental system of
examining each new patient. Every patient is seen by at least ten interns before the examina-
tion is completed, giving the intern practical experience never before attained in a chiropractic
The physical examination has been divided into the following five departments: H1 case
history: f2j eye, ear, nose and throat: 13, chest and abdomen: f4j pelvic, and 151 spinal anal-
ysis and extremities. Each department is staffed with two interns who, after spending two days
in a department, rotate to the next division. While the intern is getting this practical experience
in the departments, he is assisted by licensed doctors with years of experience and who are
specialists in the department in which they teach. Q
After the physical examination has been completed, a clinician discusses the case with
the intern: if X-rays or laboratory tests are indicated, an order is written to that effect and diag-
nosis withheld until all vital information is in.
The Los Angeles College of Chiropractic is very fortunate and proud to have installed at
the clinic one of the best and most modern X-ray and clinical laboratories in the city. ln charge
of these departments are doctors of many years experience in leading laboratories and promi-
nent Los Angelesdtospitals, giving to the patient and intern, as well as doctors in the field, the
very latest in laboratory diagnosis.
Treatment is outlined with emphasis not only on the correction of the vertebral lesions,
but upon correction of the entire posture. Adiunctive treatment such as physiotherapy, dietary
supplements and psychotherapy are not withheld in cases where they are needed.
The purpose of the above outlined system is to train the intern to examine, diagnose
and treat the existing condition of his patient completely and competently. Also to teach him
to correlate the physical findings and symptoms with the vertebral subluxations. Stressing more
and more the importance and efficacy of the adjustment of vertebral lesions, future doctors will
sell chiropractic and endow their patients with chiropractic philosophy.
We, as doctors and interns, are obligated to the patients who come to this clinic for treat-
ment. We owe them the very best that we have in examining, in diagnosing, and treating. All
of this is our duty and it means that we must never cease to acquire more and more knowledge
through study and research. We must continue to strive to perfect our science to a very fine
art by fulfilling the above and giving the student the training and experience necessary for him
to take his place in practice with the attitude and professional ethics of a public servant. Then
and only then, can we command and hold the respect of the general public-raising ourselves
in their esteem as we prove our ability and integrity.
