iris' Var ily 2 This year's Varsity volleyball team consisted of veterans Debbie Coe- ler, Sheryl Phillips, Katie Walker, Ian Mears, Denise Stover and new- comers Kathy Martinson, Karen Thomas and Gina I-Iolmstrom. At the beginning ofthe season they were faced with the problem of inexperi- ence. However, under the coaching powers of Sue Newcomb and Cindy Noblitt the girls began to build their team. The first half of the season was not as successful as past years. The team suffered not only from inexperience but also illness which seemed to hit almost every member of the team. But the second half of the sea- son proved more rewarding as the hours of hard work began to pay off in victories. The team had many special times together like singing in practice, two-minute wall sits and devotions before their matches. They grew both physically and emotionally, learning about God and each other. The season ended with a disappointing and frustrating record but this was overshadowed by the good times and fond memories that each girl took with them from this year. 1. Awaiting the serveg Z. .xi X ,149 I . V Volleyball With a team that consisted mostly of inexperi- enced players this year's I.V. Volleyball team did fairly well. Although their record really doesn't show it, the team effort and cooperation was con- siderable. Voted this year's most valuable player, Lorna Rothlisberger helped lead the team along with her co-captain Dawn Brown. Besides the fel- lowship on their own team the girls shared with the varsity players in a secret - sister relation- ship. Both teams exchanged notes, flowers, words of encouragement, friendship, and Christian love. All in all, it was a good year for the team, even if it was not a winning season. The coaches were Miss Cindy Noblitt and Miss Sue Newcombg they helped the team through a difficult year. 1. Kelli Cox hits the ball, and the spectators only see a blur. 2. The team picture. 3.
