Led by Chris Monroe, LAB Cross Coun- try finished second in Olympic league. Chris finished first in every dual team meet and first in league finals. Chris cap- tured the 1979-80 Most Valuable Runner as he had done the previous year. A first place finish at the Morro Bay Invitational and a fourth place finish in CIF Prelimi- naries gave Chris the chance to run in CIF finals, but a sprained ankle spoiled his chances. Strong finishes by Ralph Salisbury and Mike Dorais always got the clutch points for the LAB victories. Greg Njoes, Rocky Washington, Paul Sherrill and Ken Aram always finished in the top half in their meets. For instance, in the Ontario Chris- tian meet, all of the LAB runners finished ahead of all but one of the Ontario Chris- tian runners. The Iunior Varsity Cross Country team also finished second in league. Promising runners for next year include Dean Russu and Bruce Turner. Dean and Bruce, just freshman, finished first and sixth in league finals. Greg Turner and Mike Domke who are also dedicated athletes who finshed strong in league finals will be assets to the team in their Senior year. Some memorable experiences the team shared this year included the time when Todd Harper, Bill Markham, and Gunther Terampe took the wrong route at Griffith Park and ended up a distance from their destination. They received a ride from a willing motorist back to their finish line. Other memorable experiences were water fights at Morro Bay and the constant excitement of running 1320's for practice. - Varsiy ofji The Golf team was a highlight in our athletic department this year. It was coached by Mr. Maury Neville and included such celebrities as Kent Naruse, Tommy Thompson, Scott Peacock, and Garry Fletcher. They had a very successful season and are looking forward to many golfing days ahead. Watch for these guys on the .6 neighboring greens practising their putting and teeing off because you will see some real talent!
