,UG 1 1' ' ' E an New Sounds In MUSIC This year brought new groups to the spotlight like Yaz, Madness, The Specials, The Stray Cats, Rockin' Rebels, Musical Youth, Prince, ABC, Berlin, Duran Duran, Psychedelic F urs and The Members. Some old timers like The Who, who stopped touring in l 982, Tl1e Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Billy Idol, English Beat, Hall and Oates, .Pretend- ers, Journey, Kool and the Gang, Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow all came out with new hits. The Twenty-Fifth Ann ual Grammy Awards were held l ' eb. 23 at the Shrine Auditorium. Toto was the big winner of the evening, taking home sev- en out of nine awards, including Best Record for 'Rosanna and Best Album for Toto IV . Song of the Year was won by Willie Nelson for 'Hlways on My Mind . Melissa Manchester took home a Grammy for Best Pop Female Vocal Artist. Best Pop Male Artist was won by Lionel Richie. Pat Benatar and John Cougar were voted best female and male rock vocal artists. Survivor had the Best Rock Performance by a group or duo with vocals with Eye of the Tiger . One of the highlights of the evening was when Eddie Murphy, ofSaturday Night Live, ran up on stage and said, I ain 't leaving without a Grammy and ran off with Lionel Richiefs Grammy.
