Lobos Pump Iron Daily Last summer construction began on the second phase of the expansion of the out- door weight lifting facility by the P..E.'. lock- er room. The Booster Club provided money, materials and labor for this enlargement, and the Lettermens Club, through various fundraisers, donated the stereo system which loudly entertained the athletes dur- ing their workouts. Coach Dave Auxier, along with Booster Club members, spent many hours during the summer pouring concrete, constructing the fence, painting the equipment, and in- stalling the stereo system. Speakers were installed in both the indoor and outdoor weight rooms. The football players were placed on a pro- gram to gain strength and body weight. The athletes were striving for improvement and increased speed and power through this program. Each coach developed his or her program according to needs of each particular sport. Rain Crea tes Lobo Lake F' eb. 28 brought a lake to Los Amigos. The Lobos awoke to a constant down pour of rain and as the storm continued, so did the puddle in the quad, which quickly became the Lobo Lake. The lake made it difficult to walk from one side of the school to the other without using bridges made of stacked two by fours. Students had to move their cars from the parking lot, for it too became a lake. This made several of the cars look like boats or sub- marines. Yet, the disturbance at Los Amigos was small: many schools were shut down. It was not only because of damage, but several schools were evacua- tion stations. The weather also brought in a tornado that hit Los Angeles. Ten houses had their roofs torn off and several cars were over turned. Many piers were distroyed and others badly damaged. The estimat- ed value in damages was S30 million in Orange County alone. 56 Lobo Lake 'bm

Christmas Spirit Spreads At L.A. Dec. l 7 was the day Santa arrived with a yelling ovation at the Christmas assembly. He entered on the janitor? electric cart dri- ven by Activities Director Bill Brady. Santa was authentically portrayed by drama in- structor George Taylorson. The drill team performed a routine to 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town , and the Concert Choir sang their animated tradi- tional song, 'T'ruitcalre. A group of kinder- garten students from Northcutt Elemen- tary School were guests at the assembly to tall: to Santa. A few ASB cabinet girls dressed as elves, passed out candy canes to the lxids and threw out candy to the audi- ence. Each class president placed an orna- ment on the Christmas tree representing his year. Near the end of the assembly, everybody joined in to sing Christmas carols. When it came time to leave, the crowd was overjoyed with excitement at the thought of a two weelr vacation!
