Creates A Racket In CIF wpgamw wwe- N. . , ,M in .Q ELL K l fe- A f . g -X .f--.. -K - . it - 31 Going to CIF was a great emotional high for the '82-'8 3 tennis team. After placing 3rd in league, with a record of 6-4, it was questionable whether the team would even go to CIF They went and made it all the way to the semi-finals. The team entered the league finals on a high because of a near win over long time rival La Quinta High School. Every match consisted of l 8 games and the score was L.Q. 9 to LA. 8, when the number three doubles team Jill Moore and Truc Mai played to win, causing a tie: the games were counted and we lost. The loss didn 't depress the girls at all because they had come the closest to upsetting La Quinta 's undefeated record since l 976. The teams good playing came from lots of hard work that started in the summer for two hours every Wednesday. The two hour practices started to be an everyday event with the beginning of school. The potluck banquet was held on January l 0th in the faculty dining room. The most valuable was given to Mai Pham, and the most inspirational was given to Cindy Lechner. These awards were voted on by the team. The team consisted of six juniors and two freshmen. Only eight girls lettered because the spot for num- ber three doubles was shifted around and only one player was able to accumulate the ten games needed to receive a letter. Varsity Tennis 123
