7 The band you see here added a touch ot so- phistication to the Christmas dance and pro- vided dreamy, danceable music. As you can probably guess, the Hacienda was so well at- tended that it became necessary to place the ensemble behind the lovely tree, But they didn't mind, it put 'em in a Christmassy mood, they said. Q A gay Christmas spirit prevailed throughout the annual Girls' League Christmas Dance. Being one of the dressier dances of the school year, it was also one of the more popular, giving all a chance to doll up and drift romantically to appropriate seasonal dance music. 3 1 xiii Tree, band, and all are shut off from view by these lovely dancing couples. And if you don't think we had a difficult time getting into the center of this crowd - well, we had to have help to fence off cameraman and equipment for iust two scant minutes. Let's hope for more dances like this one.

Dangerous circus animals and out-of-thisd world characters were found milling about at the Annual Girls' League Reception Party for mixed-up and bewildered freshmen. Say, are they that dum-that is, don't they have any sen-gosh, aren't they stupi-oh, heck, you know what I mean. .4-'X '-u.. 78 The year's activities got off with a bang at open- ing dance in the Hacienda to welcome lost Frosh. But you know now that I think on it a bit, l do believe we were iust o bit too helpful. Why Those freshmen kept coming in unending numbers, fright- fully like an invasion by the all-devouring locust. Now we poor upper classmen haven't a corner to call our own. Goodness, we're outnumbered five to one. The new two-in-one look was stuffed into fatmen Louroine Case and Sandy Carnforth when they won the prize for the most original dress at the Girls' League Get-Acquainted Party. Julie Halquist posed as the strongest weakman that no circus wanted to hire when she won the prize for the funniest,

Can this be our Mr. Switzer, or is this dated individual his grandfather? Yup, it's Mr. Switzer starting football season with a bit of ancestral history. The raccoon coat and the dated Ford, so typical of the early days of the All-American sport, once again symbolize its opening days. October, a month of threatening clouds and long shadows, ushered in Cross Country time. The runners were understandably pleased with the failure of the mercury to reach the high numbers, and this was reflected in their nearly perfect record. We're proud of our League Champs, hobgoblins or not. T, lt is rather ironic that Thanksgiving should come during the most tragic month of the year for some of us. lt is then that the first report cards are issued and the purpose of our con- finement is driven home with particular force. Yes, we suddenly realize that summer is over and life is grimly earnest.
