Foreign Languages Department A knowledge of foreign languages is becoming more and more important today as the nations of the world are brought closer together by modern transportation. Now, more than ever before, it is necessary for people of different nations to be able to discuss thoroughly and calmly the problems that arise, so as to bring about a peaceful, happy world. In the spirit of this ideal, the United Nations was con- ceived. In the understanding of all peoples lies the hope for peace in the world. A group of French, Span- ish, and German students, symbolizing their respective nations, illustrate the belief that people .of different backgrounds and ideas can live together happily and peacefully. During a round table dis- cussion, the members of the speech class listen attentive- ly to Miss Evansis informa- tion concerning tlhe social problems of our city. H6571 English Department English, as taught in our school, is the learning of gram- mar, practical application, literature, journalism, public speaking, and dramatic arts. A new course, Senior Eng- lish, was added to the curriculum and consists of a dis- cussion of works in all literatures. It furnishes the stu- dent with a good cultural background to serve him as a means of a finer appreciation of the great literatures of the world. Our high school is making a real contri- bution to better living today and tomorrow.

The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow and must be well-trained and able to meet this responsibility. The study of government furnishes the pupil with the necessary information and back- ground, so that he will be able to cope successfully with the perplexing problems that confront us.
