His opinion is that a man whose career has been successful has obtained that ref sult through very little effort on his own part-he has been lucky, or times were different then. A careful study of the steps by which many a successful man has reached his attainment reveals hard work and often discouragement. - 1 Our principal, P. C. Bunn, did not decide until his junior year at college the vo' cation to which he has devoted his life. Once a college student, he was obliged to leave at the end of his sophomore term to teach another year. The idea of leaving his class must have been a disappointment in itself. BooNE Working in cofoperation with the Board of Education is Superintendent D. 1. Boone, a man whose attainment is the result-not of a smoothly planned course of ac' tion easily put into effect-but often of persevering labor through disheartening ob' stacles. Mr. Boone left college after his junior year in order to teach in a country school near Salem, Ohio. A few years later he was made principal of an elementary school in Alliance, for which services he received the sum of twenty-two dollars and fifty cents a month. , Somehow, Mr. Boone saved enough to go back and finish college. His family could not understand why their son should give up a good position to spend his money for more education. In 1898, he was awarded his diploma from Mt. Union College, and was able to begin teaching in Portage County-for twentyftwo dollars and fifty cents a month. Two years later the offer of principalship of Garden Avenue School came to him, and still later he became principal of our own Alma Mater. my mx Finally, in 1914, Mr. Boone was made Superintendent of Lorain Public Schools, T9 and the recent overwhelming difficulties of this situation, against which he has so skillfully contended, have only belittled those first obstructions of his career.
