Pipe Oration S THE Indian picks up his canoe and carries it oy er the portage between the small stream and the rushing river so we the class of 1955 after following the source of our high school days for many moons now shoulder our equipment and cross the portage to the turbulent adult world But as the Indian IS reluctant to leave the familiar pools and bends of his little stream so we the seniors are hesitant to leave behind our high school days brimming over with memories-our sports championship our plays our chorus and orchestra our clubs and yes our teachers and our classes We would stay with the familiar and the beloved Still the unfamiliar and the new challenges of the adult world excite us W would learn the mysteries of the River of Life So brothers of the Trojan Tribe we leave you and head for the rushing river Bear the name Trojan proudly' Keep the camp fires of sportsmanship cooperation and courtesy burning brightly' We evoke the Great Spirit of Longmont High School to guide your course through all your high school days We place our colors turquoise and silver on the peace pipe Farewell' CAROLYN HAMM Response WE WHO are left behind not yet ready for this great venture watch you the class of 1955 depart We say goodby with tears in our eyes tears of Joy for your accom plishments in the past and tears of hope for your future Through vour church your home oy ercome the limitations of the past lnquisitiye of the natures of God and man By these ylrtues you shall succeed During this last year you have been our guides and friends Through your example we have gained knowledge and strength of character May the Great Spirit who has watched over you during the years of your initiation travel forth with you into the adult world Mav He aid vou in time of stress counsel with you in time of bewilderment rejoice vyith you in times of achiey ement and guide you unerringly oy er the path of life When the time comes for us to place our colors on this pipe as you haye done may yye do so yyith the satisfaction that we haye achiey ed our goal We the class of 1956 accept this pipe of peace REA ANDERSON 1 7 7 .
