CPT. MARVI J. WE IGER COMMANDING OFFICER, USS LONG BEACH FEBRUARY 1985 - SEPTEMBER 1987 CPL SIMON 8 Captain Marvin J. Weniger, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Weniger of Wahpeton, North Dakota, was born and raised in the midwest, attending high school at St. John's Prep School, Collegeville, Minnesota. I-Ie enlisted in the Navy in 1958.and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician before accep- tance into the Naval Scientific Education Program, subsequently graduating from the University of Ida- ho in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elec- trical Engineering. I-Ie served onboard destroyers in various billets including electronics material officer, combat infor- mation center officer, engineer, and operations offi- cer before serving a tour in Vietnam at the Naval Support Activity Detachment Binh Thuy. Captain Weniger later completed the course of instruction at Nuclear Power School in Vallejo, Calif., and at Nuclear Prototype in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He has served as main propulsion assistant on the USS ENTERPRISE QCVN-651, engineering officer on the USS TEXAS CCGN-395, executive officer on the USS TRUXTON QCGN-355, and as command- ing officer of USS HAROLD E. HOLT QPF-1074I. He served as commanding officer of the USS LONG BEACH QCGN-91 until 7 September 1987. Captain Weniger is married to the former Chris- tine Hajost of Detroit, Mich. The Weniger's have nine daughters and one son. A

CDR. L.A. LEWA DOWSKI EXECUTIVE OFFICER USS LONG BEACH CGN- Commander Lawrence Lewandowski was born in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering, and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1972. Significant early assignments for Commander Lewandowski include duty on board USS KOELSCH IDE 10491, USS LONG BEACH CCGN 91, and instructor duty at the D1G reactor pro- totype, Ballston Spa, Connecticut, and the Depart- ment Head Course at the Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island. Following graduation from Department Head School, Commander Lewandowski reported to the RICHARD E. BYRD IDDG 231, serving as Opera- tions Officer, and DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER ICVN 691 as the Damage Control Assistant. In April 1985 he reported as a member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board Pacific on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet. In August 1987, Commander Lewandowski report- ed to USS LONG BEACH QCGN 91 as Executive Officer. Commander Lewandowski is married to the former Mary Fryc of Detroit, Michigan. FEBRUARY 1986 AUGUST 1987 Commander Etnyre was born in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Mich- igan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Educa- tion. He completed the Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned an Ensign in July 1971. Significant early assignments included duty onboard the USS HAMMERBERG QDE-10151 in Naples, Italy, serving as damage control assis- tant, on the USS ENTERPRISE QCVN-651 as repair officer, and the Department Head Course at Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island. Following graduation in April 1980, Cdr. Et- nyre reported to the USS MISSISSIPPI QCGN- 40J serving as engineer officer. ln October 1983 he reported as a member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board Atlantic on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Atlantic Fleet. In February 1986 he reported aboard USS LONG BEACH QCGN-95 as Exec- utive Officer and served onboard until 16 August 1987. He is married to the former Ingrid Elizabeth Grass of Warren, Michigan and has a daughter, Kirsten and son, Aaron.
