President Tom Price Jolene Gastin ---------------------------------------- Treasurer Patty Steele President Secretary In 1943, the members of the class of 1955 began their education in the elementary school. While there, they formed friendships and learned the fundamentals of the three R's. At the end of six years they left the grade school to enter Junior High. There they made new friends and became acquaint- ed with new subjects. For the first time awards of merit were made to members of the class. Martha Elberfeld and Peter Yaw were presented history awards. Upon entering the Freshman year the members felt quite grown up, for under the direction of Wayne Hamrick, the first class officers were elected: president, Roger Bray,- vice-president, Peggy Cummins; secretary, Jolene Gastin; treasurer, Don Goss. Here the class had its first taste of social activity. Teentimers was organized. The highlight of this organization's activities was the Freshman Dance. This year the D.A.R. citizenship awards were presented to Peggy Cummins and Tom Price Entering senior high school as sophomores was the next big step. 9 Although classified as underclassmen, the members were able to attend all the social affairs. This year the officers were: president. Bill Juergensmeier; vice-president, Tom Price,- secretary, Patty Steele,- and treasurer, Ruth Lott. The next year, the junior year, was the busiest year. Through money obtained from a turkey raffle, sale of Christmas cards, and the annual junior movie, the class was able to sponsor a very successful prom and banquet. The officers this year were: president. Bill Juergensmeier,- vice- president, Bob Ranier; secretary, Don Goss, and treasurer, Patty Steele. After eleven years of study, the class members have accomplished one of their many goals, that of becoming seniors. Senior Class officers were: president, Tom Price,- vice-president, John Hunsaker,- secretary, Patty Steele,- and treasurer, Jolene Gastin. The class selected the white carnation as the class flower, lavender and white as the class colors, and Give the world the best you have and the best will come back to you, as the motto. How eager we were to learn our ABC's, read and do simple arithmetic. We progressed rapidly through grade school. Then came the day when all the students from east, west, and central joined together and met at junior high. There we had a great experience as we came in contact with many new teachers, friends, and studies. In the eighth grade Ken Dollison won the D.A.R. history award. Upon entering our freshman class, we considered ourselves very important and quite industrious. We found ourselves very much interested in basketball and football. Many of us were even members of the big L.H.S. band! Winners of the D.A.R. citizenship award were Helen Clark and Elmore Beal. We chose as our class officers: president, Frank Hartsell; vice president, Ed Dougherty; secretary, Helen Clark; and treasurer, Mona Marks. They very successfully maneuvered us through the year and into big and awesome senior high! As sophomores, though, we were not used to being treated as under classmen. We enjoyed many good times. Our class officers for this term were: president, Ed Dougherty, vice presi- dent, Judy Schultheis, secretary, Sarolin Palmer, and treasurer, Pauline Heim. Now at the end of our junior year we look back at the excitement of getting our class rings, the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, and the wonderful times we all have had together. We juniors of 1955 feel that we have been progres- sive in every way, and are looking forward to next year when we will be hailed as grand and glorious seniors! President, Frank Hartsell. Vice president, Al Visintainer. Secretary, Patty Smith. Treasurer, Ron Willis. 24 Row 1 M. Alberry, E. Anderson, B. Auker, P. Bailey, E. Beale, D. Bennett, I. Bigham. Row 2 B. Blosser, C. After we- had completed the eighth grade we became freshmen, and our class advisor was Mr. O'Brien. Our officers were: Jim Hartman president; Ben Buckles, vice president; Carol Daubenmier, secretary; and Sandy Spalsbury, treasurer. Bill Cooksey and Sue Shipley received the citizenship medals from the D.A.R. We also enjoyed Teen Timers and the Freshman Dance in which the whole class participated. Then we entered senior high and Mr. Primmer was our class advisor. Officers elected were Bill Cooksey, presi- dent; Jim St. Clair, vice president; Carol Daubenmier, secretary, Patty Miller, treasurer; and student council representative. Bill Cooksey. During those years we made many friends and grew up from the seventh graders we were three years ago to the freshmen we are today. While eighth graders, Georgiana Wolfe ond Harley Ellinger won the history awards. This year we welcomed new friends from the county and parochial schools. Patty Young was our choice for president; Bonnie Gabriel, vice president; Heine Meyer, secretary; and Lynn Strait, treasurer. With Mr. and Mrs. Marion Allen as instructors we or- ganized Teentimers which was climaxed by the Freshman Dance. Heine Meyer, Lynn Strait, Leanne Gasser, and Harrold Elberfeld were our Teentimer officers. Sports wise we are proud of our freshman athletes. In football we triumphed over Nelsonville twice and Wellston once, but we lost to Jackson and Marion- Franklin. Coach O'Brien says no one of the players is exceptional—they all are. Coach Scrivner feels the same way about the'basketball team. Sad as we are to leave junior high, we are enthusi- astically looking forward to the next three years in senior high. 32 Row Is S. We are also glad to welcome the return of the Spanish Club and the Junior High Student Council. Varsity L was introduced for the first time this year by Coaches Scrivner and Allen. The new members endured a rough week of initiation and are now full pledged mem- bers. Thus far the organization has proved very successful, and we think that the boys will strive whole-heartedly to keep it going. Junior High Lunchroom Staff came into being with the new Junior High Lunchroom. It has relieved the Senior High Lunchroom and has proved a worth-while project. Junior High Student Council was re-organized this year for the first time in over seven years. It is under the direction of Mr. Haynie. Spanish Club was re-introduced after an absence of one year. It has fourteen members and Miss Lowry is the advisor. Thanks to all our faculty members for being such wonderful advisors to our clubs. 47 First Period Choir Second Period Choir Teentimers I Row 1: B. Lauhon; R. Daily; M. Glenn; S. Guess; D. Starr; M. Bexley got the jump on the Chiefs rolling up 32 points. Logan's only score was a Dexter to Kuhn pass in the last quarter. Final score Bexley 32— Logan 6. Logan again traveled, this time to Jackson. The Jack- son machine was too much for the Chiefs; however they put up a good showing with Whip Harden and Ron Willis scoring to make a 41-14 score. 57 Dick Harden Senior Halfback Jim St. Clair Sophomore Quarterback Nelsonville came to Logan again trying to end the Chiefs win streck. The Greyhounds scored first in the third quarter. Whip Harden scored for Logan and Ellis' conversion gave the Chiefs a 7-6 lead. Later in the quarter Frank McLaughlin snared a Greyhound pass and went for a TD. The game ended 13-6 and Nelsonville attended classes Monday. f- The Chieftains hit the road to Athens. It was a wet night and poor football weather. The Bulldogs were too power- ful as they humbled the Chiefs 40-14 with Harden and Willis doing the Logan scoring. 58 Jim Lehman Junior Tackle Jack Dexter Junior Halfback Ben Buckles Sophomore Halfback Don Brown Junior Guard Pomeroy traveled to Logan looking for their first win of the season. It looked as if they would take one home un- til Frank Hartsell snared a St. Clair pass and Fred Emerson converted. Hoke again scored and Fred's educated toe sent the ball through the uprights giving the Chiefs a 14-13 victory. Dick Vollmer Senior End Roger Gordon Junior Tackle Larry Rutter Senior Quarterback Frank McLaughlin Junior Halfback Logan made the long jaunt to Gallipolis. The Chiefs could not get started against nor could they stop the Blue Devils. Logan's only consolation was a Gallia pitchout which was snared by Sonny Ellis who went back for a TD. The game resulted in a 31-7 setback for Logan. 59 Tom Hutchison Junior Tackle Fred Emerson Senior Fullback Logan went to Wellston to battle the Golden Rockets. Wellston had yet to be scored on. They were determined not to let the Chief- tains blemish their record. The Chiefs were humbled by a score of 45-0. Tom Heft Junior Guard Al Visintainer Junior Guard Middleport come to Logan looking for their first win. Most of the game was a back and forth battle with neither team scoring, finally Jack Dexter went off tackle for sixty- one yards for the Logan score. The hard fought battle ended 6-0 in favor of Logan. 60 Dave Roberts Sophomore Fullback Frank Hartsell For their outstanding play in the South Eastern Ohio League three Logan boys were named to ranks of the All SEO League team. They were Roger Kuhn, Roger Bray, and Frank Hartsell. Junior Fullback Roger Kuhn Senior End Jim Monk Junior Tackle Also deserving some mention are our two tackles whom we had to do without because of broken bones. They were Pete Yaw and Jim Monk. Both boys were injured during the first of the season and we really missed their services. Football Dance Why so glum? On November 26, 1964, the cnnual Football Dance was held. The gymnasium was appropriately decorated in purple and white with footballs, goalposts, and a big 55 . Chuck McNamee M.C.'d the program which consisted of contests and a comedy skit by Dick Canty and Jim Bowers. The highlights of the evening was the crowning of Patty Steele as the 1955 Football Queen. Her court was made up of Susan Murtha, Sally Chrisman, Jolene Gastin, and Judy Young. Queen Patty was presented a bouquet of flowers and was crowned and kissed by co-captains Roger Kuhn and Dick Harden. What's so funny, Hoke and Bob? Our senior—men?? 2 Band Row 1: B. Ruff, J. Marianne Jolene BAND This year the band under the direction of William Gasbarro presented many interesting band shows during the football sea- son. The band ended their marching season with the annual Christmas Pageant. Neil Baker was elected president, Marty Gompf vice-presi- dent, Julie Schultheis secretary, Elmore Beale treasurer, Marlene Gastine head librarian, and assistant librarians—Marianne Shaw, Jim Hartman, and Harry Kitchen. The band presented two band concerts, one in February, and one in May. Eight members of the band participated in the Ohio Wesleyan Festival. In April the band entered in the con- test at Athens, Ohio. Linda Marty 65 Basketball L. to R.: D. Harden; F. Hartsell; R. Kuhn; S. Ellis; D. Lappen; J. Shaw; F. The team will have twelve returning lettermen including Roger Kuhn, Sam Nixon, Pete McGuire, Richie Vollmer, Dick Shaw, Pete Yaw, Fred Emerson, Neil Baker, Jim St. Clair, Bill Cooksey, Larry Inboden, and Frank Hartsell. The outfield will be hit by the loss of captain Ronnie Dennis but should be quite strong both offensively and de- fensively. The infield's only weak spot should be at third base where Larry Buckles, the leading hitter, was lost through graduation. The pitching will be the only spot to be proven with Neil Baker, Larry Inboden, and Dan Lappen returning from last year's squad. The loss of Bob Tom, who chalked up four wins, will be a factor. The 1954 team had a good season winning eight and losing seven. The highlights of the past season were the victory over Lancaster 3-2, the 5-2 win over Athens, and the tournament game at Ohio University against Gallipolis. The team this year, with the superb help of Coach Allen, should prove to be one that will make the S.E.O. take notice. 70 Cheerleaders Lucy Cordell Charlotte Whitcraft Jane Risch Judy Young Sue Shipley Patty Smith Patty Steele Head Cheerleader Odds And Ends 72 Those slumber parties.
