Zaamkvthall Although not so spectacular rn rts successes rs football our basketball season proved satrsfactory rn that the Joy of vrctory surpassed the strng of defeat The loss of a num ber of last seasons men was felt keenly However thrs ye rr s team developed rnto a lrvely squad and showed therr abrlrty rr hen opposed by heavrer fellows ln order to strmulate rnterest rn the game a class tournament was rrranged early rn the SQ 15011 by Mr Hluprmmn Frrst the lqreshmen rnd Sophomores prtted themselves one agarnst the other followed by the urrror Senror laurel seekers The wrnners of the two prelrmrnary games the Sophomores and Senrors played the lrnals Somehow rnysterrous as rt may seem the Sophomores managed to slrp one over on the upper classmen thereby elarmrng class clrrrrrprorrslrrp lqhe avarlable materral berng lrrred up sewer rl practree grrnes were played wth Merrno and the Sterlrng Athletrc Club the latter group rffordrng much valuable trarn rng for our team as thrs club rs lrrgelv composed of old L C H S stars Our fellows have been rn good conclrlron throughout the serson and eager to meet any team then equal Becruse of the urrcertxrnty of the season s schedule due to war trme condrtrons we have not been rs fortunrte rn playrng rs many games as we had hoped to Nevertheless by observrng the schedule rt mll be notrced that L C H S holds the greater number rn total baskets thrown Greeley lndustrral Hrsvh 'rl Sterlrng Holyoke at Holyoke Akron at Akron Fort Morgan at Sterlrng Fort Morgan at Fort Morgan Total Opponents Tota L C H S On all of the trrps the boys were shown r good trme by therr opponents As a general rule the rooters of the opposrng teams gave the boys a better receptron than drd our own When our boys were rn Holyoke they were treated cordrally by the farr ones who flocked down to the statron to see therr new frrends off Whrle the rest of the boys were lookrng up a parr of chaps for the rocky return voyage lqppre amused the grrls by showrng them how fast he could klrrt One of the brg surprrses of the season was on the trrp to Akron When the boys alrghted from the trarn a large group of wartrng damsels wanted to know where the grrls were What a foolrsh questron do you thrnk the boys would take the grrls wrth them on such a trrp3 Now gentle reader thrs was not so foolrsh a questron as may seem for they thought our grrls basketball team was gorng over Tlrrs may partly ex plarn why Akron drd not play a strffer game The most eventful trrp was the one to Morgan Ihe trrp was made by auto as some wrll remember and a heavy storm and a mudhole caused many much drscomfort besrdes mrssrng the game Whrle there we drscovered that we had qurte a hrstorrcal character rn our mrdst and rt took the Morgan grrls to spy hrm out Napoleon on ac count of hrs bony parts was camouflagrng as erry l8l Holyoke at Sterling, ,,.. . I rark lhe track season of l9l7 was the most successful one that me have had for several years Early rn the season about twenty candrdates for the team responded to Coach Knowles request for men After several weelcs of hard tr unrng Coach Knowles arranged an mter class meet the wrnners of which were to go to the meet at Fort Collins The mter class meet was a decrd d success and much enthuslasm was aroused among the members of the different classes Each class chose a candidate for May ueen and the wmnmg class was to have thelr ueen crowned The unlors won by a score of 58 2 3 pomts to 57 of the Senlors The May Queen was theirs and It was unan lmously agreed to let Paul Crown er 1 ss ih- r lIOUj . , W so s F -W-,HH , 4 is F 'Mei It W ' e Y Y I I ' .I eh .
