Walk-in printing and negative processing rooms increased efficiency in the new publication facilities built last summer. Of the nine editors on this year’s staff, seven were juniors, including the editor-in-chief, a seldom obtained honor. Additions included a second style editor to check copy and a classes editor to supervise class mug pages. Despite a petition for a red and white cover, the staff again made its own decision. Cover design and color use were decided in April, 1968. PRINTING room space left was well utilized by photographers and printers Cary Hall. Keith Fischer. Larry Seiler. Sheryl Maurer, Jerry Barosso. and Jan Saunders, head printer. Not pictured were Christopher Hickman and Ed Baker. 'Flame circulation increased 50 per cent, a result of a package plan which enabled students to buy a student body card, “Flame,” and “Tokay” for SI 1.50. Purchase of a Heidelberg offset press by the printer cut production time in half. The “Flame” room was rebuilt in the former custodians’ shop and was supplemented by an air conditioner purchased from the “Flame” and “Tokay” budget. NSPA awarded the Flame” an All- American rating for the fourth time in six semesters. CARTOONIST Jacklyn Takahashi left touched up her drawing while Susan Solari, circulation manager, folded Flames, and Karen French, business manager, kept up her bookkeeping.
