Five more students than last year participated in class elections on Oct. 9. Voting for the 44 candidates took place in homerooms after the Vote-A- Matic idea discussed by the student council was rejected. Campaign speeches were de- livered Oct. 8 and run-off elections were held the following Friday. Ralph Uttke, Senior Class president, de- feated Gary Haas and Fred Hebcrlc. Rick Souza was elected Junior Class president after a run-off with Mary Rodriguez. Mike Woods lost in the first election. Robin Vandcr Hamm, sophomore president, tri- umphed over Jenisc Castelanelli and Rick Rimmcr. Wayne Wood. Liz Romero and Ken Kato were defeated by Pete Hartnett for freshman president. Election reform of ASB constitution was initiated by council for more efficient government. The pro- posed amendments were to elect the A-yell leaders individually and to hold class elec- tions in the spring. Voting privileges and including “Sol” as an elective office were also contemplated. Jerry Roster piloted the editing of the constitution and revision of the boys’ dress code. The council sponsored the second annual Soc Hop on Oct. 19 and initiated the Computer Dance on Feb. 13. A bermuda week was proposed for the spring. Council members placed several bulletin (wards on campus for sports and activity dates. Taking community action, the council, led by President Mike Hodgson, supported the school bond campaign and VISTA in rural elementary schools. Attempting to make the victory queen more prominent, her reign was extended to one week. Ten water repellent pennants were pur- chased to fly with the victory flag and over 150 red jackets were obtained for girls sports. CLASS representatives below left senior Alan Sakoi, junior Jan Nekitas. sophomore Joe Handel, and fresh- man Bonnie l.auchland conferred with vice president Jerry Roster.
