'83 State Runner-Up The 1983 Lady Panther Volleyball Team was a favorite to win Having graduated only 2 players, the main nucleus was returning The opening match was against favored Class C Oshkosh. It was an excellent match, but Oshkosh won it in 2 straight sets Their confidence shaken. the team set the stage for their next match with Dix. The Dix match was to show how tough Lodgepole Volleyball was to be during '83. The Lady Panthers suffered a humiliating 15-1, 15-12 loss to Dix The match was over before they had realized it had begun They left the court stunned and disappointed, knowing they had not played up to their capability That night they learned that you don't show up to win. you have to play to win. The next match demonstrated this lesson. With hustle and hard spiking, the Lady Panthers defeated Brule in 2 auick sets They easily defeated Lyman, Harrisburg, Bridgeport, and Bayard in 2 quick sets each. The next match pitted 6 Sidney St. Pat's against unrated Lodgepole The exciting 2-1 victory over St. Pats earned Lodgepole the 9th rank in the State The victorious trail of the Lady Panthers made them Melbeta Tournament Champs. Potter Tournament Champs. MAC Tournament Champs, and D2-15 Champions, and had set a new school record with 21 straight wins. It looked as if Lodgepole was to be the Division 2 Class D Champions, but their hopes wen taken away by Hildreth in a closely matched game in the Finals at Pershing Auditorium. The Lady Panthers had a very successful season and proved to everyone that they were capable of playing excellent volleyball. The disappointment of losing to Hildreth ended abruptly as they exited Interstate 80 to Lodgepole The spirit and loyalty of tne Lodgepole Fans came shining through as the Lady Panthers were welcomed home with a caravan of firetrucks and honking cars ending up at the high school where there were lots of speeches, thank-you's, laughter, tears and memories. To the Seniors, Stephanie and Lisa, you will be missed. We appreciate all that you have contributed to the team To the Junior Varsity Team who ended their season with an 8-1 record, we want to say . 'Let's win the State Title in '84. 21
