Panther 1984 Lodgepole Public Schools Lodgepole, Nebraska The summer passed by too quickly. And the fall came too soon. Our lives will soon be filled with laughter and joy. But will all end too soon. We make the most of our days, Filling them with love, laughter, and learning. Our nights are filled by working out on the court. Making the most of our dreams. And Lodgepole that number one team. As the laughter continues and the time flies by fast. We make the most of what we have. And remember nothing ever lasts. By Kimberly Valla Dedication WE, the class of 1984, dedicate this annual to a person who has made our four years at Lodgepole enjoyable. He has always had an encouraging word whether we achieved greatness or failure. He spent many hours working and doing for others beyond what was expected of him. He never hesitated to help someone even when it meant giving up his own valuable time—no matter if it was during school or afterwards. Therefore, we dedicate this annual to you, Mr. Epling. 2 Seniors Connie L. Dickinson Annual Staff Pep Club Cory L. Fraass Football Basketball Track L-Club Band Choir Swing Choir Honor Roll Kevin j. Giving, trying, making every second count; Being able to make that last touchdown before the clock runs out; Being strong enough to spike that ball across the court. But yet getting that ole' basketball down that same court. Running that extra mile. Competing against the clock. Sports isn't everything. But it's a great part of life. by Anita Way Look Out For Number One You have to push a little harder than the last time; be a little smarter if you want to survive; move a little faster than the last guy; practice very hard and never look behind. You've got to look out for number one; set your sights on the stars and above; look out for number one, and push a little harder, be a little smarter; yah . .. Author known 20 '83 State Runner-Up The 1983 Lady Panther Volleyball Team was a favorite to win Having graduated only 2 players, the main nucleus was returning The opening match was against favored Class C Oshkosh. It was an excellent match, but Oshkosh won it in 2 straight sets Their confidence shaken. the team set the stage for their next match with Dix. The Dix match was to show how tough Lodgepole Volleyball was to be during '83. The Lady Panthers suffered a humiliating 15-1, 15-12 loss to Dix The match was over before they had realized it had begun They left the court stunned and disappointed, knowing they had not played up to their capability That night they learned that you don't show up to win. you have to play to win. The next match demonstrated this lesson. With hustle and hard spiking, the Lady Panthers defeated Brule in 2 auick sets They easily defeated Lyman, Harrisburg, Bridgeport, and Bayard in 2 quick sets each. The next match pitted 6 Sidney St. Pat's against unrated Lodgepole The exciting 2-1 victory over St. Pats earned Lodgepole the 9th rank in the State The victorious trail of the Lady Panthers made them Melbeta Tournament Champs. Potter Tournament Champs. MAC Tournament Champs, and D2-15 Champions, and had set a new school record with 21 straight wins. It looked as if Lodgepole was to be the Division 2 Class D Champions, but their hopes wen taken away by Hildreth in a closely matched game in the Finals at Pershing Auditorium. The Lady Panthers had a very successful season and proved to everyone that they were capable of playing excellent volleyball. The disappointment of losing to Hildreth ended abruptly as they exited Interstate 80 to Lodgepole The spirit and loyalty of tne Lodgepole Fans came shining through as the Lady Panthers were welcomed home with a caravan of firetrucks and honking cars ending up at the high school where there were lots of speeches, thank-you's, laughter, tears and memories. To the Seniors, Stephanie and Lisa, you will be missed. We appreciate all that you have contributed to the team To the Junior Varsity Team who ended their season with an 8-1 record, we want to say . 'Let's win the State Title in '84. 21 Amy— Hey, which one of you guys Oh, Mighty Mr. Volleyball! We worship you and praise you! is going to hit the ball?!?! They played more games than any other team, finishing 9-2. A new football conference was formed at the beginning of the season called the Summit Conference. The Panthers were the first to capture it going undefeated in Conference play. The 83 team also qualified for the State Playoffs and advanced to the second round. The North Platte Telegraph ranked the Panthers 8 in D-2. Another great accomplishment by the 83 Panthers was 7 straight shut outs by the 1st team defense. Making All Conference were Kevin Campbell, Greg Markel, Troy Kastens, Matt Bartling and John Deal. Terry Slingsby was Honorable Mention. Also Kevin Campbell, Greg Markel, and Matt Bartling received 2nd Team All-Area Class. All-State Honorable Mention went to Kevin Campbell and Matt Bartling. Impressions of a place and a time Of friendships and sacrifices Of work and play. Impressions of those last fleeting moments A senior looks to his future . . . An underclassmen to his responsibilities. High school, not an end, but a beginning Ahead, a life of impressions And much time for memories. Memories valuable beyond compare Spanning a lifetime Linking the past with the future. Impressions and reflections Captured through the eye of a camera Recorded in a book of time . . .
