Panther JCodgepole High School Codgepole Nebraska (Foreword) And what is a yearbook? Not just Lodgepole students and Lodgepole teachers, not just victorious athletic teams, talented musical groups-but the essence, the vitality, the warmth, the intangible, living heart of all these so a yearbook is like a magic mirror-capturing, holding, and reflecting forever the vibrant force and personality of Lodgepole High. A yearbook is people and people are laughter, tears, cheers, dreams, studies, goofing-off. People with growing-hurts! And a yearbook is events-proms, music, dates, and lack of dates. Football games won and celebrated, football games lost with tired senior players walking silently together for a last look at the now-empty stadium, turning quickly away with unbidden tears. A yearbook is life-a year of life-a year lived-a year now gone ... Dedication Mr. Weber We the Senior Class of 1979 would like to dedicate the yearbook to a very special friend, coach, teacher. He has helped everyone of us in a special way. He has not only been a teacher, but a friend and a person who is always there to give you a compliment. He gives you a sense of accomplishment and an all around good feeling. Therefore, we the Senior Class would like to dedicate the 1979 Panther Yearbook to you. Growing together then drifting apart Always an ending and now a new start. At graduation we all grow nearer And all friends seem so much dearer. And as we say our final good-bye. Learning from a new coach is a test to every boy in dedication and knowledge of plays. The boys were eager and ready to have a good season from the beginning which in the end produced 3-5 season. The dedication of these boys and with help of my assistant made my job easier. I learned from this season and will be able to put my new knowledge into effect next year whereas, what the boys learned will hopefully help them in their life in the future. 35 Volleyball (L to R) on floor, Sylvie G, Debbie B, Julie M, Renae R, Brenda B, (2nd row) Lisa V, Sandi S, Nancy N, Laurie T, Judy G, Tammy S, (3rd row) Shebi B, Becky B, Coach Stoll, Rosie N, Assistant Coach Marcia Culp, Rena B, Student Manager Faye Dickinson. 34 Impressive! Respect is the key word to boys basketball describe this years’ boys basketball team. The panthers finished 7-7 on the year with impressive wins over Leyton, Brule, and St. Pat’s. Although the team was inconsistent at times, the players showed tremendous gains throughout the year. All the teams in the conference took Lodgepole serious, knowing that their tough man to man defense was something to contend with. Five seniors and one junior led the team throughout the year. Mike Namuth, Jeff Markel, Ward Bond, Monty Kehl, and Mark Bartling were starters through their senior season. Junior Kent Sick also contributed to the panther effort by leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Kent was named to the 2nd team all conference squad. These people along with senior Ryan Block and junior Randy Anerson provided exciting basketball for the Lodgepole fans. The panthers are looking to be even better next year with some young talent returning to fill the vacancies left by 6 seniors. Their type of basketball was also exciting as the Junior Varsity compiled a 7-3 record and displayed why Lodgepole figures to be better in the future. J.V. The annual of that famous class of ’79. I’d forgotten some of those old friends of mine. Let’s see-they were all such promising kids. Their future was guaranteed-there were no lids. Would you like to know what happened to the class? We’ll hop and skip all over the place, and show you that the gang of ’79 has made their names and are doing fine. As I walked downtown one beautiful day, I spotted a sign which happened to say, “Ward’s Super Colossal Immense Drug Store . How about a Wardburger? It’s a real treat and much more. A Ward Sundae, a soda, a Ward lolly-pop that Ward put his name on an awful lot. He’s entrepenour of Ward’s chain of stores, drugs, cosmetics, food and a whole lot more. So when looking for pills or just a treat, pop into a Ward’s store and have a seat. The kid got on the intercomphone, “Page the bridge they shouted-he should be home.” The battlestar’s teams are ready to play the other team comes from the Milky Way. Two fleets of battlestars high in the sky need a little diversion as they pass by. So let’s play ball-Captain Davis is keen, as the boss of the Intergalatical baseball team. One Saturday night with nothing to do, I turned on TV to watch a show or two. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Scott Bondegard with an ape not a deer. He was trucking around the U.S. of A. Going from place to place and making it pay. But what was Scott doing?-and then I knew, he’s the new Clint Eastwood and made one or two of Clint’s old pictures-they turned out just fine. And Scott’s making money-who needs a gold mine? His pictures are seen most every night, he even sings and that makes them really all right. The sign on the door said come right on in, to Brenda’s Hair Gallery—exclusively for men. She specializes in feather cuts, or perms for the fellows. She’ll wash it and cut it-even die your hair yellow. She designed John Travolta’s hair for his new show. He wears it curled back with a bright red bow. You know at hair she really does fine, since she cut Steve’s hair in the spring of ’79. Tim’s a scientist-we really can boast. Why he’s famous from coast to coast. His plastic surgery keeps the women in stitches, his nose job alone brings in untold riches. His speciality is a complete facial job, he’ll fix your wrinkles or do an ear job. His most famous job was on Phyllis Diller, he made her a beauty-a real thriller. He left our town for Laramie’s bright lights and when he got there-Wow, what a sight. He went to school-rodeoed on the side, and before long his bull riding fame spread far and wide. He rode the bulls as it hasn’t been done, he always did think those brahmas fun. He jumps right on and teaches who’s boss. So far he’s never found a bull too cross. One day a bull tried to throw Jeff on his can, he carved up that brahma and put him in a pan. Now Jeffs number one in the U.S. of A. He’s the boss bull rider and making it pay. She’s beautiful and lovely-exciting too, she’s Miss America of 1982. From Lodgepole High School she went to L.A. and looked for a role in pictures, but that didn’t pay. So Laurie entered the contest that very night. She wowed the judges-what a beautiful sight. Now she’s touring the world as America’s friend. From Peking to Stockholm and back home again. We paid $5 for a chance to go on a wildlife safari to see water buffalo, and lions and tigers and zebras and elephants too. Beside the Lodgepole creek, now it isn’t a zoo. Why Dan Stumpff bought out Carlsons ranch on the creek, and soon had his pens full to the peak. He put in corrals and fences-and from a zoo or three, he imported animals and set them free. So stay in your car, don’t pet the cats, now pay attention and wear your safari hat. The camels will follow your car down the road, watch out they’ll kiss you when you unload. Nebraska’s Grand Prix-a super duper thrill for the experienced rider this fills the bill. The cycles commence at Bondegard’s bins, out to the cemetery, oh who will win? Across to Stolls on a prairie road that’s rough, his cycle nearly dumped him-this course is tough. Ryan vowed he’d win-and he started out in high gear to the cemetery and Stoll’s-Diane really cheers. Quick by the oil well as fast as the bike will go, he’s first into town-the others in tow. Now Ryan’s crowned the king of Grand Prix with a million dollar purse and a solid gold trophy. The miracle cars of ’88, hurry and buy one—don’t be late. Seventy miles to the gallon of water-not gas Randy Taylor perfected this miracle at last. It’s a super dynamic piece of a car, Randy says on water it goes very far. So horray for Randy he solved the energy crises and put cars and travelling back on every one’s prices. Who’s beautiful and slim and wears a raincoat? She’s adventurous and daring-even swam a moat. Of an age old castle in far off Marakeesh, she went out there planning to teach. However the CIA needed a girl with a beautiful face to carry their secrets from place to place. Who would suspect Becky from up in Sunol to negotiate with Eskimos at the North Pole? Right now she’s in Arabia in search of more gas, next week she’ll be in Sinapor-she really moves fast. So if there’s a treaty or a peace abrew, Becky’s there first to be sure its all true. He deals in gas and oil for your car. He’s the Husky man—he wears a star. He’ll fix your flat in just a minute, or gas your car-just stay right in it. He bought out Delmar and he’s doing just fine, so visit with Mark at the Husky sign. After Jimmy Carter our oil really ran out. Not a president elected could do more than shout. So the Republicans and Democrats said now is the time, to elect a woman the very first time. A woman can run this country O.K., she can balance the budget and keep Russia away. And so at the convention in Philly P.A., by unanimous ballot, or so they say, Carla was nominated on the women’s ticket, her opponent a fat old man name of Pickett. She was elected 90,000,000 to one, moved into the White House our country to run. We’ll have unlimited gasoline and cheaper plane fares, no army, no navy, no crimes and all get their share of the good life of this grand country. And plenty of places to spend your money. I needed a loan—just a buck or so. I went to Lodgepole’s First State where I always go, went in the door and what do you know. Mike Namuth greeted me with a big hello (leho). I’m president now and I make the loans. For cows, chickens, pigs or broken bones. So if it’s a million or more you need, step right up, for Michael that’s just chicken feed. The babies and their Moms trooped in the door, pictures of all sizes from ceilings to floor. Babies in red and babies in blue with curls and smiles and dimples too. Diane is a baby photographer of remarkable fame, she photographed Cher’s new baby and made her name. So now she’s famous and the very rich call for Diane to photograph their children one and all. She took pictures of Amy Carter and Jimmy’s teeth, so now she’s rich and famous beyond belief. She grabbed her clarinet and saxaphone too and then and there Dori right out of the blue, joined the Chimney Rock Band, a very sound. She sings and she plays-she’s the best to be found. So if you want boogie or a little disco, find Dori’s band and let it all go. 60 He started out to be a petroleum engineer. He went to Lincoln—got all A’s, I hear. Then went to work for Texaco, found a huge lot of gas in south Mexico. Then he turned his attention to making oil, took sand, gravel and water and gave them a swerl. Now we don’t need to rely on the Alaskan pipeline, Monty’s oil and gas really works fine. Then after making his fortune he decided to run for Governor of Nebraska-he really had fun. For his cabinet he appointed Lodgepole’s boys of ’79, Nebraskans really enjoyed those years—had a fine time. No arrests for driving-everyone had fun, Monty’s running for president now—who’s going to help him run. His fame as a comic became known everywhere. Steve basked in the limelight-didn’t have a care. Until one day his phone went ring, ring, come to Washington the President shouted-don’t bring a thing. So Steve chartered a plane and with suitcase in hand, the President met him with the Marine Band. We’ve a little problem only you can solve, we hope your willing on you it revolves. You remember that man—Mork from Ork? Well the Orkians want a man to report to Ork and teach them the ways of our earth. Well, your just perfect and you’ll be the first. So Steve stepped into a plastic egg and whish, he was met by an Orkian a very sweet dish. She was gorgeous and lovely and fell for our Steve. Now even the President can’t make Steve leave. For on Ork he found some very fine folks, a brand new audience-they love his jokes. That’s all-they were a remarkable class, the school was never the same after they passed. Waiting impatiently for an end; But as we leave, we find we’re yearning For four more years to spend. All these years, filled with good friends. Love, laughter, hardship, tears; When all is done, when this year ends. Will it be forgotten? It’s one of our fears. For if time cannot cling to us forever. If my memories from these years cannot last, Then our happily ever-after becomes never. And our future fades with our past. The End 64 Ik 4 v'a.st W frv , -fit :«S|fc ' Kr 'it.' Liw £ . • : - • .
