PANTHER Lodgepole High School Lodgepole, Nebraska FOREWORD And what is a yearbook? Not just students and teachers, not just victorious athletic teams, talented musical groups - but the essence, the vitality, the warmth, the intangible, living heart of all these - so a yearbook is like a magic mirror - capturing, holding, and reflecting forever the vibrant force and personality of the Lodgepole School. A yearbook is people - and people are laughter, tears, cheers, dreams, studies, goofing-off. People with Growing-hurts! And a yearbook is events - proms, music, dates, and lack of dates. Football games won and celebrated, football games lost with tired senior players walking silently together for a last look at the now-empty stadium, turning quickly away with unbidden tears. A yearbook is life - a year of life - a year lived - a year now gone ... DEDICATION With profound sincerity, the Class of 1970 gratefully dedicates this ‘Panther’ to all the people of Our Town. We Seniors feel privileged to have the opportunity to represent what is a mere portion of the ardent and unselfish work that is the spirit of the Lodgepole Community. Your enthusiastic support of our numerous projects and activities has not only inspired us to achieve but has enriched our lives. Proud to be graduating citizens of Lodgepole Town, humbly we say Thank You. MR. EUGENE THOMPSON Superintendent TO THE CLASS OF 1970 During his term of office Theodore Roosevelt stated that THE FIRST REQUISITE OF A GOOD CITIZEN IN THIS REPUBLIC OF OURS IS THAT HE SHALL BE ABLE AND WILLING TO PULL HIS WEIGHT.” If an individuals’ goal is to be shaped into reality each individual must accept responsibility and be ready to make sacrifices. This effort must be put forth in the education you gain, in the career you make, in the friendships you gain, and in what you contribute to your community and your country. Whenever you are faced with an opportunity be willing to pull your own weight. The Faculty and I sincerely hope that success will follow you in all of your endeavors.
