f,f5Wi Farewell. In this time of summer they would tacitly recognize the waning of one year and acknowledge the shy overtures of the beginning of a new time in their lives. Graduation nights at Locke are emotional carnivals. They are the nights of a class celebrating -- the frustra- tions of the past weeks abandoned to headlong release. They are tidier versions of New Year's Eve, quieter porixaits of the Fourth ofjuly. People give in to pleasure, encourage their restless spirits, shed their schoolday Weariness. Some find respite in the intimacy of private moments, others spin the city like a top into the tiny hours. Some cling to that Thursday night, refusing to admit the dawn ofanewday. . . We'l1 recall our learning, love life, teachers and friends with the nostalgia and ardor that life often lends. The time has come for us to depart, each going his own way and making his own start. So as we bid our fondest valediction, the Powder Blue and Gray will fit the description of a place we've come to know so well . . . and so, with tears, kisses, and cries . . . we bid you Farewell. attire Senior june announced itself imperiously, gripping the school with stiff, stifling winds. There was a secure authority to the month, the whims of the weather were positive statements from high skies. The sun slanted sharply, nights were black, and the winds blew in cool, soothing air. People would know june in full array as they moved closer to Graduation. Days disappeared, some slowly, others in blurry activities, until finally Graduation arrived. A blithe day with a sure sun and erratic, punchy windsg a day that marked the beginning of a new life for the Senior Class. People awakening on this day sensed the new season all around them and breathed in the air of annual re- joicing. Fear would stop long enough to consider the traditional meaning of Commencement Day, most would embrace it as a time free of worries. Suddenly the Senior Keshos would be kinder to each other, there would be a generosity of spirit, an exchange of smiles, there would be neither guilt nor shame in allowing the mind to love The third Thursday in june would be a neat and polished day. People poised at the edge of happy event- ful times would ready themselves for laughter and care- free, unwrinkled cheer.
